RE 2257: What are your (link list admins) stances on changing content in old sites?

As many of you are aware, there will be a need to swap out explicit content with non-explicit content to comply with the new reglations. For some sponsors, getting documentation is easy, but for others it's just not going to happen and some even request that the explicit content be swapped out with their non-explicit content. Some of us may even have to just delete the stuff from our servers.

What this all means to link list admins is that there will be a ton of sites flagged for checksum changes and such.

How are you guys going to deal with this?

Will there be a grace period for submitters to get their sites into compliance or is the "delete" button just going to be hit on your ends? Also, for the ones we have to delete, what if we just put a page up with simple text "Site removed due to new regulations". Can we all adobt a standard for this?

Keep in mind, some of us have 100's of sites listed needing alterations at the moment and having to resubmit all of them would impact our daily business quite heavily. Just adding proper compliance statements will cause a checksum flag. That would mean putting ourselves hundreds of days behind in some cases (providing worse case scenario of the "delete" button is exercized).

Any thoughts?

Define "explicit content"

If the site is the same with just new pics (same niche, title, etc) then just change them & don't worry about it.

If it becomes a completely new site, request that it be switched or deleted & resubmit.

Delete and build new. Bots will pull it for going 404. Consensus seems to be that most aren't going to ban for going 404 during this mess. I'm not banning anyone for going 404.

I hate to think how much of all this old stuff is also sending traffic to dead sponsor links as well.

I don't see how one could possibly swap explicit content for non-explicit while remaining true to the category, title, and description. Do as Cleos says.

That's a concern of mine right there as well. Say I have a site that has a description of "Pretty blonde strips then fingers her hub cap hole" then I swap it out where she doesn;t actually touch herself then it's misleading. Unfortunately there's going to be discrepencies about that aspect of it.

Cleo made a good point about old links may not be still working. While that is a big possibility a lot of people fiter traffic to other places too so the site is still "worth" something to the creators of the freesite. As for links going 404, so long as no banning happens then it's perfectly fine that the bots remove those specific 404'ing links.

I think a lot of us are just going to have to swallow the fact that a lot of sites will be shit-canned. It's not always worth resubmitting them when you could just continue along your way making new sites daily since your advertising is probably more effective with newer work anyways. of course if we find a site that is netting good sales still and needs to be resubmitted, then of course it's worth the day it takes.

I don't actually use descriptions like that anymore. I used to, but a few link list owners would email me complaing about weird descriptions. Although, some would emial me cracking up laughing. Understandable though. Can be a bit confusing. Now I just use generic terms for the sites I build for my main employer.

I agree that we will not be doing anything for the 404s and 302s that occur due to people redirecting or pulling sites - since our bots will just pull the sites when they encounter those and are set to not BL right now - of course if they start 302 or 301 to nasty stuff it might tend to be a bad thing

It seems to me though that a bunch of your stuff was pulled recently (I may be remembering incorrectly) due to redirects or not found?

If you've got the fresh content why not build new and get all the traffic from a new listing instead of the trickles from an old one?

I sold the domain to someone. He fialed to change the DNS. I cannot host someone elses site. I made numerous contact attempts. All failed. I then pulled site. Htaccess was left behind as it's hidden in FTP, which was set to redirect 404, noindexes and bad requests to another domain and landing page I had set up.

Sorry for my "sharp" short winded post. I just spent 10 minutes making a fully detailed reply, I hit submit and this gay MSIE crashed.

Now I know why I use firefox and opera. I just used IE cause outlook launched it from the newsletter links.
