registering a domain

First of all, this is my first post on this board, so hi!

So I'm getting ready to start making freesites. I've got a hosting service picked out, I've got my first domain name picked out, the only thing I couldn't find advice for on this board: Where's a good place to register my domain name? Who do you folks use?

DirectNic is good but not the cheapest, I would avoid GoDaddy if I was you

NameCheap.com has a good admin section and does only charge $8.88 per domain you register. We used NetSol for years, and still have many domains there, but I've been moving some and registering new ones at NameCheap.

It's important to save a few bucks, as Tommy's $2 fee doesn't sound like much until you have thousands of sites out there and have to pay the annual renewal fees every April 1st.

Welcome to the board.

Welcome to GreenguyandJim I have been using Directnic since the day it opened. It has a very user friendly interface and the domains are only $15. I have no idea if that is expensive or not. My first domain in 1996, domains were $100/year and there was only 1 place to get them.

Thanks for the advice, everybody. I'll check out both DirectNic and NameCheap.

Thanks for warning me about the patent, Tommy. I'd hate to be in violation! The check is in the mail - I've prepaid for 1000 sites in advance. Luckily I'll have a lot of money soon because I just signed a deal with this Nigerian banker.

You're in luck, by the way, as it's a little-known federal law that every check drafted on April 1 is worth twice as much!

I have been using domainnamessytems, they have been fine for me. Directnic is good as well, both are run by people I know personally and that gives me much confidence. Avoid GoDaddy and the like - and pretty much avoid any registrar in an east block country

That must have been the first post from a new board member that put a smile on my good looking face

I'd expected something like: "Why must me pay, no me have monie, rich me soon be"

Ah well, don't mind me, I tend to be a little drunk on Sundays
