cgi errors?
Hey there,
i'm new, working with distantdoor.com, making freesites... been lurking 'round these forums for a bit now, thought i'd ask a question... Anyway, i've been doing alright with the freesites for a few weeks now, there's some sites (including link-o-rama) that freeze up when in the submitting process. So when I click on "submit" it loads, and loads, and loads, and then it goes to a "cannot find server" page, there's a few sites that are like this that use a CGI submit script i guess... this happens to me every time i try to submit. Anyway, just wondering if there's specific reasoning for this, should I change something on my end?? I searched the forums, and could not find an answer to this, i'm not sure if anyone else has this problem? any help would be great, thanks. bossman. |

I think I've heard a slow loading page can be a problem.
I don't know if LOR has a recip link validater, but if the form bot has difficulty reading your page quick enough it may time out before it's finished executing the rest of the code. Many lists have page reading bots which check for all sorts of things. Just a thought.

If something goes wrong at the plant, blame the guy who can't speak English

I think it's a problem with hosting. When I have site on godaddy hosting I have same problem. I change hosting company to webair and now everything is ok.

Kids are great, Appu. You can teach them to hate the things you hate and they practically raise themselves now-a-days, you know, with the internet and all

CGI Errors could only appear on the server side, as all cgi scripts are executed on the server itself and not iwithin your browser like Javascript is doing it. No, you can't do anything except to inform the owner of the site about it, but most of the time it's just an old site and it's not longer suported anymore.

Hey everyone
Its a strange phenomena! I read the thread referred to by Thrash, and tested my sites for responsiveness so I think they should come up quickly. As GG said in that thread, it might work sometimes, but then I thought I read that the script might block you if you try too many times. I guess I will try one of my other domains... |
