Building a PC
It's about time to replace my current business PC and I'm thinking about just building one from scratch. It seems that you can save about $500 by spending 4 hours putting it together yourself.
1. AMD vs. Pentium? 2. Any good sources for matching processors with mother boards? The AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ outperforms the Pentium D 840 by a small margin and costs about $120 less. However, if 1 or 2 applications have issues with the AMD then it's a $1,500 POS. What I need is lots of drive bays and I do want something that compresses Windows Media files quickly since the only processor intensive thing I do. I won't be doing any gaming. This is not a gaming PC. Water cooling, dual graphic cards and the likes need not be a consideration. |
