Now I'm Helping A Friend
My brother brought a friend over the other day, she's 40 and does live web cam shows for Hustler. They take in 2K on her every two weeks and she gets 31%. They also sell VOD's and she gets a few bucks from those. She wants her own site so she can do the web cam shows and sell her own vids and keep more of the money. I told her that a lot of her success is due to Hustler's traffic. Somehow she hooked up with a webmistress halfway across the country that will make her a site and will be 50-50 partners. I told her to be VERY wary of that and that I could probably find someone here at the board that would build her a site and not jerk her around. I could make her an amateur MILF site but I don't have the PhotoShop or script skills necessary to make a proper site. She would also need help getting some kind of billing set up (ccbill maybe?) Anyway, she'll be here at the board in a day or two and I'll introduce her. She can get into the particulars once she makes contact with some people here. Just wanted a few people to be thinking about building her a site.

31% of 1k/week is better than 100% of a startup site with zero traffic and revenue. Personally, I think she should stick with Hustler or an established cam site with traffic, until she builds a strong base of fans that will follow her when she leaves. BTW, HustlerLive.com is a VideoSecrets white label site.

If her unknown partner will be taking 50% ( I assume that is AFTER expenses) that will leave her somewheres in the 40+% range of sales for her end...Hustler gives her 31% with a huge traffic base
Tough call as with her own sites she "could" take off and make a fortune, or her income could drop to a slow dribble...is she financially stable enough to take a chance? |

I think personally she'd be better off doing an amateur milf site..no cam..or upsell her cam show from within the members area. There is no way that a start up site will touch the traffic resources that Hustler has. She could make a few $$'s off memberships to pics/videos and maybe a personal blog, journal etc. But for the cams I'd suggest she stick with Hustler.
She'd need Visa start-up and CCBill is an easy enough processor. But don't let her get talked into a 50/50 deal with a webmaster. I could probably set up a small tour site for her, for either a small nominal fee or a smaller % of the sales.

Only reason to partner with someone on a 50/50 basis might be if that webmaster had a long/proven track record of successfully building lots of quality traffic, particularly high-quality cam site traffic. And of course having experience dealing with affiliates and billing companies would be a plus. But just because someone might possibly be able to build and then maintain one website is not a reason to make a 50/50 partnership.
Of course the webmistress she hooked up with could stop by here and make her case for being worth half of what the site brings in (and yes, after expenses).

What Simon said!
I'll state the obvious....Why would she have to give up the Hustler work? Most girls with their own pay site work for cam companies all the time. It adds money in their pocket AND it gets their name out there so of course gets their own personal web site way more traffic. Keep the Hustler gig!! And do not partner with someone!!!! (unless they have or get your new site traffic, and lots of it!!) If anything partner with an affiliate program that'll take 30%-50% depending on their involvement. An affiliate program has webmasters and will get her traffic right away! |

I'd agree with the general consensus, setting up a web site of her own for the sole purpose of doing private cam shows isn't a practical solution for a number of reasons.
What most cam girls do, is work multiple cam networks then have a site of their own for selling other stuff. Some do the monthly membership thing, but many just use their personal site as a means for setting up appointments for private shows, selling photos, used lingerie etc., and linking to their clip stores. In my experience, the private show customer is not likely to join a monthly membership site and vice versa. There are some exceptions, but they tend to be two different critters. Oh, and so you know where I'm coming from in terms of experience on this topic, I peronally know a number of cam models who make more than that 2K every week as their cut. The webmistress she told me about has several #1 spots on Google for blogs about some kind of dog I've never heard of so my friend thinks the lady is a SEO guru. I told her blogs about some kind of strange named dog are NOT the same as a porn site and not to expect to be #1 on G.
Great advice guys, I'll make sure she reads this thread and PM's anyone if she wants more info. This is the kind of stuff she needs to hear. (counting you UW, I have two friends) |

Im working with a couple of local models for solo girl sites. The contract we offer is 30 to 35% of the profits after all over head cost. We take all the pictures and shoot the video footage and retain the rights to it along with the model. The models are required to do 4 cams shows a month for their paysite. They are also required to do 1 cam show a month to the open public. We have an affiliate program we are opening and the models sites will be a part of it. We will supply affiliates, advertising and handle all the proccessing fees and bandwidth. Basically we run the whole show. All our models need to do is shoot once or twice a week and do the cam shows. They can also do other gigs on their own (like cam shows for other companys)
A 50/50 cut would be great for the model if they didnt need to do anything else, But i have a feeling that the webmaster/mistress might not be the most experienced.

OK, this girl is coming over in a while to talk about her options. I talked with her on Skype and she's all excited about a web sites deal with GoDaddy. I've heard lots of bad things about them but can't remember what was said so if anyone has negative info on GoDaddy post it here so I can convince her to host her site with another company.
TIA |

She talked with them and they will build her a site for a monthly fee, which sucks, but I'll ask if she told them what it's for.

Unless you want a giant mess of bad html mixed with even worse css I wouldn't have Go Daddy build anything. For the past week or so I've been cleaning up the mess that GoDaddy built on a mainstream simple 10 page site after it was moved to real hosting.

Run as far and as fast as you can from Go Daddy. They have but one redeeming quality, they're cheap.
My advice is to spend a little money, doesn't have to cost a fortune, but get it done right the first time. It will save you far more money in the long run. |

Have a PRO build the site, not GoDaddy and host it at a PRFESSIONAL web hosting company that knows adult like Colo, Mojo or many others. Hosting is dirt cheap fora startup, likely 100-200 a month tops.
A pro designer will do a basic design for maybe $500. |

I hate to say this but it doesn't sound like she knows what shes getting into and/or what running an adult site is all about.

Probably not a bad idea at all assuming you have the time. You've got experience building sites and getting traffic, and you can learn or hire someone to do some of the work you might not be able to do. Seems a better arrangement than using some stranger who wants 50%.

Did she mention the domain name she wanted to use when talking to go daddy? If so, the chances are they now own it and she won't be able to use that domain without going through them.
I'll be honest, I don't know much about cam sites but if you have a good thing going with hustler which does have excellent traffic, why even bother with another site of your own? If she wants to expand her viewer base then surely the best thing to do is sign with other cam companies that already have the resources and traffic to get her the extra exposure and extra sales she wants. That means no costs up front, no extra work beyond her cam obligations, no loss of sales and no chance of losing the quality traffic she already has. |
