SEO & First Link Priority Article ...

Trying to get better at SEO and understanding my master, Google.

Here is an interesting article on First Link Priority.

"Today I want to show you an easy way to solve a common problem that causes many sites to fail to rank as well as they should.

The problem is that web developers are unaware of the principle of First Link Priority. The bad news is that many sites, especially those with a large number of pages, don’t get the rankings they should because they don’t handle first link priority properly.

The good news is that once you’re aware of the problem, it’s very easy to fix and avoid in the future."

You mean to say that instead of text linking, it's image link which really works?

I don't think so.

artwilliams, just remember that close to half the stuff you read on SEs can loosely be filed under the heading of misinformation...whatyou find find works for you best, stick with it and refine...best way for you to capitalize on the SE traffic..

I don't think that that's what the article says at all. AMF, the article shows methods of avoiding having your image links take priority over keyword rich text links.

'The First Link Priority rule states that when a page links more than once to the same target page, Google will completely ignore all links after the first, often with negative SEO consequences.'

I found this very interesting, and using css to display an image for what us essentially a text link sure seems like a good idea. There's a lot of seo bullshit out there, but I think this is worth a try.

Solid information. That said, I'm not sure about Google ignoring additional links on a page. I don't think that it does.

Google now is too strict specially on adult sites. Because as you have notice many adult sites are full of FFA sites, Spams, etc...

Google does not like affiliate links and in this context you have to see quoted article. One of the first lessons a webmaster learns about increasing click to target ratio: Put bold text below your banner. It's a small thing, but manipulative in directing a surfer to another destination for the benefit of generating income.

Read the article again with this in mind and you will see why it makes sense. It's not saying image links work better than text.

If you want to "get better at SEO" the first and most important lesson is to loose the attitude "understanding my master, Google". Google is not you "master", and you will only progress in SEO once you start to consider that you are the master and Google is your slave!

First of all, read the Google Webmaster Rules, it's a terrific resource. Google really lays out what they look for. Then to get perspective, I'd recommend a terrific blog, Common Sense Website Marketing. Between those, you should be good.
