ePassporte to Launch Message Center

Just in case someone missed it epassporte has good news for us

Excuse me just copy and paste it here but it's a bit late...

Effective 04/04/2005
In order to increase the security and privacy of our cardholders, to stop Unsolicited Commercial Email using ePassporte email addresses, and to stop phishing strategies aimed at ePassporte account holders, ePassporte is phasing out the ability to receive email from any non-ePassporte address. You will still be able to receive email from ePassporte support and from any ePassporte account holder, and, you may send an email from ePassporte to any external email address.

ePassporte to Launch Message Center

ePassporte is changing the way you receive notifications and messages regarding your account by eliminating ePassporte's email in favor of an ePassporte message center.

The new ePassporte message center will allow you to:
a) Retrieve important notices from ePassporte and notifications of financial transfers.

b) Contact support personnel by specific inquiry.

c) Forward messages from the ePassporte message center to any external email address.

The message center is expected to launch around noon Pacific on April 20,th. Once the message center launches, ePassporte email will be permanently discontinued. If you have messages in your ePassporte email that you feel are important, you should forward those to an external email address at your earliest convenience.

===========================

Some members have reported attempts to gain access to personal account information through e-mail requests that were made to appear that they were sent from ePassporte. Also known as phishing or spoofing, the practice of e-mail fraud is commonly used by criminals to gain access to your existing accounts or to use your personal and financial information to open new accounts. If you suspect that you may have received a fraudulent e-mail, please forward it to us immediately at abuse@epassporte.com. If you suspect that you may have provided personal account information online in response to a fraudulent e-mail and would like your account to be blocked, please call us immediately at any of the phone numbers provided in Contact Us section of our website.

Recognizing E-Mail Fraud
Spotting a fraudulent e-mail may not always be easy and the criminals are getting more sophisticated about creating them. A fraudulent e-mail may ask you to reply directly or click on a link that takes you to a fraudulent website that appears to be legitimate. In either case, they will generally ask you to provide sensitive personal, financial or account information.

Tips for spotting a fraudulent e-mail:

Generic greetings - Fraudulent e-mails may begin with a generic greeting, such as "Dear ePassporte Member/Account Holder."

Requests for security information - Fraudulent e-mails may claim that your financial institution has lost important security information that must be updated.

Fake links - Fraudulent e-mails may request that you visit and update information online. The text in a link may attempt to look valid, but then send you to a fake address. Always check the source of a link before you click on it. Be aware that a fake link may even have whole or a part of the word ePassporte in it (example: www.epassportenet.com, www.epassportesecure.com, www.epasschecks.com). Always log in to ePassporte account by opening a new web browser and typing www.epassporte.com and never by clicking on a link in an e-mail.

Typos and other errors - Fraudulent e-mails or websites may contain typographical or grammatical errors. The writing may be awkward or inappropriate. The visual or design quality may be poor and not match ePassporte design.

Attachments - Fraudulent e-mails frequently contain attachments. ePassporte will never e-mail you an attachment or a software update to install on your computer. Never click on an attachment as it may cause you to download spyware or a virus. To see an example of a fraudulent e-mail, click here.

You'd think they would have put this into place when it started - LOL - anyone that was using their email system as anything other than internal stuff has probably got issues

True... but I think they came up with this pretty fast when the first phishing emails appeared. I used to get 1-2 emails promoting bestiality and incest but that was all
