DirecTV moron

So the DirectV dude shows up and the first thing I notice is that he doesn't speak or understand almost any English. Now I'm part Spanish myself so I in no way have anything against Spanish folks but if you are going to work in an English speaking part of town you would think that you would speak more then ten words of English.

So he finds a bad connector in my patio. Just replace the connector right? Wrong he wants to run a brand new cable from my bedroom up to the dish on the roof. In fact he wants to run about fifty feet of cable across my walls, over my ceiling, drilling holes all over the place replacing the cable which is hidden inside of my walls.

I only speak about ten words of Spanish and mostly I know how to ask how much are you spending and what are you into which doesn't do much good when you need your satellite cable fixed by a dude that only speaks Spanish. Anyway after much going back and forth I finally get him to agree to replace just the connector but he cuts so much cable that now it is too short so it is pulled out from the corner hanging out by about a foot from it.

By this time I'm ready to throw him out but instead continue to argue with him that my cable has not gone bad and he just needs to add a short piece of cable which he finally does do.

I now have satellite in my bedroom again which is all that matters but I am wondering how he ever got hired by DirecTV.

I had ours installed at this new house when we moved in. The guy would not put it where the other dish was claiming a fear of bees. Then butchers a phone line connection and I swear it looks like he tore the wire shielding to make connections all over the damn wire bringing out some grounding problems with my phone. Even installed a phone jack on the outside of the house! So if you need to call long distance just come on over and plug in the wall!
Everything is on the cheap these days even labor. The only person I`ve had in this house who did work up to my standards was the electrician I use..and old family friend. Even the guy I helped install my gas and furnace was a moron! So glad I kept an eye on him or he would have screwed up more than he did with me standing there!

Yeah I could go on bitching about some of the help that I've hired.

The tile guy that shows up when he feels like it and is going on try number three to get the floor of my shower pitched right. Yes dude water does not flow uphill and my toilet sitting in the middle of my patio really would be more functional installed back in my bathroom.

Then there is the plumber who doesn't really know how to solder so it takes him five or six tries before nothing leaks. At least he is cheap so I don't expect him to be good and on the plus side he does understand that water doesn't flow uphill.

The electricians are actually very good but are also very expensive. Same thing for the carpenter who is also very good but fucking slow as hell as he loves to talk, smoke, and take dumps that stink up my whole house.

I'll be so happy when this is done.

One of my many jobs was that of a DirecTv installer. I hated that fucking job with a passion. Some installers want to do more so that the company they work for can bill you more and they, the installer, make a cut of that. I always wanted to get it all done and get back on the road. DirecTv is a pretty simple installation. (obviously) It only becomes difficult when the home owner says 'I don't want to be able to see the dish'. I that's when you want to wedge it up their ass and leave.

OMG Cleo! I think the same DirecTV guy showed up here today. 10 words of English is being generous.

This was the first appointment we could get to have our dish realigned since Hurricane Frances.

But the original installer sounded about the same you yours too. We were moving in and didn't realize he was drilling holes through each room to run cable inside from one end of the house to the next. Needless to say, it looks like crap! I feel for ya, I was beyond irritated. Oh! And he was here for 4 hours and didn't leave until 2am...I couldn't believe it! And after all that, one of the boxes with Tivo didn't work and we had to wait two more weeks for them to bring a new one. grrrr
