Suggestions for a color laser printer
I like have almost no need for a printer so my cheap ass ink jet printer serves my needs but my companion is printing out Word docs and pictures for school so I'm looking for something that makes a lot less noise and isn't too expensive on supplies.
HP Color LaserJet 2600n looks pretty nice and it works with Macs so I'm thinking of going with this but thought I see if anyone else had any suggestions. |

The printers are cheap these days, they make their money on the toner cartridges.

Toby is right saying they make money from the toners. I would look at comparisons before buying and check the dpi for the machine your interested in. You also need to decide what you want to print as well because some laser printers cannot do glossy photos or double sided printing for example.
my advice would be to go to a store with a page of text and a picture and ask them to print off a copy of each on the printers your interested in so you can do a real comparison before buying. That way you can judge for yourself the print quality and the time it takes to print. After that i would order the printer you want from the best source costwise and check if they include additional toners at a reduced rate if your buying them at the same time. |

My HP of about 8 years stopped printing blue a few weeks ago and I've been looking for a replacement. I'm thinking about Canon PIXMA series because they print pictures well and have fax capabilities. The HPs seem to do one or the other until you get to some much higher priced units and those don't get very good ratings.

I have a few OKI's and they work excellent, my biggest issue is that the cartridges are expensive (color), and I print a ton of color stuff so it pisses me off.

I like Lexmarks new color printers. Cnet seems to like them too but I have been burned more than once by their reviews.

Regardless of which printer you decide on, the real cost is in the toner.
They could give the printers away for free because the real money is in the consumables, ie. toner and paper. Do your homework and find the printer that gives you the quality and speed you desire. Then try this, to lower your cost per impression, http://www.cartridgeworld.com/ |

This is a great idea! When my laser printer had died, I saved the pages as EPS in QuarkXPress then as JPEG in Photoshop and uploaded to the clients' server

Outsourcing it to Kinkos or Office Depot is an option for a big print job but often we just need to put out a few pages here and there.
I can't stand the noise from an inkjet so despite its lower cost and maybe even better printing of photos I really want something very quiet. After looking around and reading replies here I'll thinking of going with either the Lexmark C532n or the HP Color LaserJet 2605dn. HP costs a bit less then the Lexmark but the Lexmark has a higher resolution and more RAM. http://reviews.cnet.com/4504-3155_7-...84&id=31850723 Also... Toner for the HP seems to cost a lot less http://www.inkjetsuperstore.com/ink-...aserjet-2605dn Verses toner for the Lexmark http://www.inkjetsuperstore.com/ink-...s?search=C532N CDW has a very good offer on the Lexmark until the end of the month. http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/specs.aspx?EDC=1073842 Probably going to make a decision here this week. |
