Fed Study Finds Only 1% of Web Pornographic
I would have thought that the ratio would have been way higher.
About 1 percent of Web sites indexed by Google and Microsoft are sexually explicit, according to a U.S. government-commissioned study. Stark also examined a random sample of search-engine queries. He estimated that 1.7 percent of search results at Time Warner Inc.'s AOL, MSN and Yahoo Inc. are sexually explicit and 1.1 percent of Web sites cataloged at Google and MSN fall in that category. http://finance.myway.com/jsp/nw/nwdt...&date=20061114 |

Are you sure this is the Sci-Fi Convention? It's full of nerds!

Interesting article. Pitty it doesn't say what the %/topics are, that make up the other 98% of searches.

Only 1% ? That's probably because the government computers block most pornography

I don't have to be careful. I got a gun

Only %1 of web is pornographic means there's a lot more money to be made with mainstream .

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand!

Haha right!
I wonder if that's gone down or not from where it used to be. I also wonder how the hell it's possible to measure that, and if they controlled for traffic. 1% of web sites is irrelevant. I'd be much more surprised if 1% of traffic was to pornographic content. Think of those ridiculously huge (non-adult) numbers about how many blogs are created every day. Maybe 99% of the web isn't adult, but I bet a large chunk of that is unvisited webcrap. |

Aw, Dad, you've done a lot of great things, but you're a very old man, and old people are useless
|
How about bittorrent networks, tons of porn on there I bet it didn't get measured.
A couple of years ago estimates were that bittorrent accounts for approximately 35% of all internet traffic. |

Heh Heh!
Great to be a one percenter!! Means the market is far from flooded. Compare the pecentage of surfers looking for porn (whatever % that is?) with the percentage of sites offering it, and I'd say porn is a pretty good biz to be in

I often wondered if we as adult webmasters are a bit closed minded when it comes to main stream sites
