is "Deadwood" dead?
http://www.darkhorizons.com/news06/060512h.php
The upcoming third season of HBO's "Deadwood" looks to be the end of the profanity-laden Western reports Reuters. The cable network has opted not to pick up the options of the actors on the show, releasing them to pursue other projects. "Deadwood" creator David Milch is shifting his attention to "John From Cincinnati," a one-hour surfing-themed drama project he is writing for HBO. HBO sources said there are conversations about the future of "Deadwood" beyond the third season but it is highly unlikely that cast members would be available to do additional episodes in the future. |

I never watched more then a few minutes of it. I really need to get a life I guess.
I did start watching Huff on Showtime this year and have really gotten into it. Mostly I'm going though Battlestar Galactica withdraw. Fucking Tivo… I remember when I never watched TV because nothing was ever on when I felt like watching TV and now I just go to my now playing list. Tivo is evil… |

In my old days my friends and I did some work for HBO, shooting pilots for a live music show. 1 thing I can say about that company is CHEAP. They pay cheap and they are sneeky. My friends and I were young and got paid very little for what we were doing. After our work was turned in, we were told the show was only going to air 1 time and then that was it. I really did not care as I was happy to be shooting and hanging out with bands. The $100 and back stange passes were enough back then. I was smart enough to keep the rights of my stills, which have gotten me some good $ from ebay. Shit I shot Stone Temple before they were STONED lol. But my friend was pissed cause the show ran for like a year and we never really got any laywers involed. We should have, but back then things were just weird. In the record biz most stuff is run my kids, 20's to 25 and anywork I have did was always done with a hand shake, joint and beer (not in that order lol). But I will say if word is that show is out, it prob is.

I think it starts in June. That is sad news that there are only going to be 3 seasons of Deadwood.
Cleo, I have been watching Huff since it started. I think it's the best show Showtime has ever had. |

Yeah, I saw a 'commercial' for the new season just the other day, and got all geeked about it. Then read this and got bummed. Now I have mixed feelings on it.
I would hate to see it end, because I love the show. At the same time, I'd hate to see go bad and turn into crap like the current season of, The Soprano's. Maybe this season will be good and they can go out on top, instead of "jumping the shark". Always leave them wanting more.

I just saw the coming attractions last night while i was watching Sopranos and Big Love. I too was happy to see it returning soon, but that sucks that this season may be the end.
Oh well. Thank God the world isn't limited to the size of my TV screen - lol! Bill

The first time Deadwood aired, I only half watched it while I worked so I missed alot of the storylines... I bought it on DVD and actually watched it and now I love it ! I've been watching season 2 on Saturday nights and I'm waiting for S3.
Too bad it's ending but honestly, the storylines can only go so far I guess

The second season DVD set will be released May 23rd. In case anyone is planning on buying it for me, I prefer the widescreen version.

After a month-long struggle, HBO and "Deadwood" creator-exec producer David Milch have agreed to produce a pair of two-hour specials that will serve as the show's series finale reports Variety.
HBO will have to renegotiate new deals - now for a pair of two-hours as opposed to a full season - with all of the players in the grisly Western. Although no one is locked into continuing with "Deadwood", an HBO rep said the network was confident in reaching all the deals necessary to proceed with the show in its new incarnation. A shortened season was problematic for Milch because each episode in the first three seasons of "Deadwood" represented a single day, and he could not see how to wrap up the stories in just six days. By instead producing a pair of special event presentations, Milch will be able to write the finale using a different format and space of time. No decisions had been made about a production start date or a premiere date, but HBO says the series and its fans would get closure. Now if only they'd do something similar for all of us "Carnivale" devotees out there as well. |

well.... that went out with a wimper...
Good show, but too many loose ends. Which is why you should never base a TV on real people. |

Ian McShane did an interview for TV Guide and confirmed that there were going to be 2, 2 hour Deadwood movies to wrap it up.
"Ian McShane suggests, "It was a very expensive show to do." Expounding on that thought, Swearengen's portrayer says, "On Deadwood it's 15 working days, usually, to do a show, and that was one of the contentious reasons why I think the show was abruptly halted." Halted, yes, but it also was exalted, by critics as well as viewers. "You'd think with the acclaim it got, we could've reached some kind of finish," McShane shrugs. "And we will, in two two-hour movies" tentatively scheduled to start production in May 2007." |

Cool, I looked online and saw nothing new so I just assumed they gave up the idea of the 2 - 2 hour ending.

I did that too Torn. But then came across the TV Guide interview. It would be nice for HBO to have announced something instead of calling it a season finale. My wife still believes next year there will be another season.

Dammit
Those hoping HBO would commit to their promise of at least one "Deadwood" TV movie to wrap up events in the series, well the bad news is it ain't going to happen.
Out doing promotions for "The Seeker", actor Ian McShane told Cinematical that "I just got a call on Friday from ... a dear friend of mine, who told me that they're packing up the ranch. They're dismantling the ranch and taking the stuff out. That ship is gonna sail. Bonsoir, Deadwood." With the strike and his current schedule anyhow, McShane admits that late next year would be the earliest he could commit to any such project. He's also not happy - "You feel cheated? Imagine how I feel!. We all do. We all do... But everything has to come to an end, babe." |

You kind of had to know it was just HBO trying to string it's customers along until we forgot.

It seems like HBO has been a little sparse as far as quality content lately.

Showtime has Weeds and Dexter. Now really sure why I'm still paying for HBO.

I don't even really like Dexter that much. It just seems to be done on the cheap for some reason.
Madmen on AMC...that's another story. If you haven't seen it, do yourself the favor. |
