QR Code on Freesites?

Has anyone tried adding QR Codes to freesites? Anyone have some input on whether this would be worthwhile or a waste of time?

For those that haven't heard of QR Codes, they're like a barcode that can be read by mobile devices. The QR Code contains a URL. For example, a surfer scans it with their phone, it'll open the sponsor's mobile site.

There's a free QR Code creator:

If you have an iPad2, this is a great QR Code scanner app:

QR Codes make sense for print material as it is a way for mobile users to access a web page without having to type in a URL.

But I don't see how they make sense on a free site as all the user has to do is click on a hyperlink.

Hey Cleo. I'm thinking maybe the surfer will see the code and scan it out of curiosity. Then let the mobile tour sell the surfer on the idea of watching porn on their phone or iPad.

And that popular iPad app saves your scanning history. So maybe they won't sign-up to the mobile site while sitting at the computer, but they might check it out again in the future.

Over the past couple months, my mobile stats have been increasing. And I'm actually getting some mobile sales. This might be a good way to reach out to mobile customers.

My bookmarks sync with my iPhone and I'm assuming that most people's bookmarks also sync with their mobile devices but I could be wrong.

I'm also getting mobile signups but oddly they are all coming from my non mobile stuff (These sponsors have mobile redirects on their tours) but none of my mobile signups are coming from my mobile links.

I have no problem with people putting QR Codes on their free sites though.

On a personal note I use the RedLaser app on my iPhone and often scan QR Codes when I'm out shopping for product information or product barcodes for looking up who has the cheapest price on items. But I've never scanned a QR Code off of my computer screen.

I have seen this on few paysites from one sponsor I'm not heavily promoting but still promoting, I'm assuming that QR code does not carry my affiliate code, so I think I will stop to promote them, just because.

Yeah I wouldn't promote a sponsor that had links that didn't carry my affiliate code including QR Codes.

Easy enough to find out if they do or not just scan them with a reader.
