Time to pull the plug

Hey guys |waves|

Well,i got on with my life and it time to move on to other things.I'm going to be pulling the old plug so if you have any trades or freesites listed from dickheadshit.com please remove them when you get a chance.

I'm going to keep everything up until the end of the month so everyone doesn't have to rush to get them down.

I'm going to keep the domain so hopefully if things change and the economy picks up i can get back to doing what I love....but for now, pulling the plug is just one less thing to worry about.

I'd like to thank everyone for the trades and traffic over the years, also for putting up with my goofy and just downright crazy posts and giving a guy like me that really doesn't fit in anywhere a place to call 'home'.

And last but not least, thank you Green Guy and Jim for providing hands down the best webmaster outlet on the net.If it wasn't for you guy's I'd still be putting up Lexington Steele banners on my twisty's babe sites hehe.

Oh don't feel bad for me.Me and Mr Yum are sitting back sipping pina coladas in the webmaster after life. |jester|

Thanks -
Joey Sharaba AKA Star Man

StarMan, mind if I ask if your site is losing money, or not making enough money and taking up too much time for the returns, or other.

Are there things that you feel you should've done but didn't, or did things that were a waste of time or counter productive?

Any input would be appreciated, and best of luck to anything you do man.

Well NNick , you want a brutally honest answer? Here it go's.

As much as I LOVE the adult industry - I feel I dedicated a foolish amount of time and energy into something and have nothing to show for after all these years.I also feel that a part of being a successful adult webmaster isn't only about hard work but also being in the right place at the right time. If someone said they wanted to start a link list today I'd say - Your a day late and a dollar short buddy.

I know it's fun to receive checks for doing 'nothing' but looking back in hindsight - If I would have dedicated the same amount of time and energy into ANYTHING else I would have made much more money.

I also think that the concept of giving away free porn was doomed by design. When there was only a handful of people doing it,your going to hit it big but today it's like trying to sell snow to an Eskimo.

NNick,I promise you that this isn't some kind of reverse psychology to scare you off, this is just my brutally honest opinion.

Good luck Star Man. And no matter what, know that you did what so many are afraid to do..be in business for themselves and even if it didnt pan out you still threw your hat into the ring and went for it and that no one can take away. All the best.

Fonz 2009-06-23 03:53 AM

Good luck with all your future endeavours Star Man.

Tekster 2009-06-23 05:19 AM

Think twice. I wish I had stay in at least a little in 2001 when I bailed out. If I had done so, I'd be a million years ahead right now instead of clawing my way back.

Fuck, do it as a hobby. You like looking at naked women anyway, dont you?

Now might be a good time to mention that I do gynecological exams for free...if anyone's interested...

You know, with your handle, I always thought you were a girl. I can't picture a guy being luscious or delightful. Well, except George Michaels when he was younger, and only then because he looked enough like me in my 20s to be fucking hot.

horndog 2009-06-25 07:33 PM

Good luck with whatever you get into and thanks for the trade!

Hehehe..Luscious is definitely both luscious and delightful, believe me. He runs nice link lists, and build sweet freesites too.

Starman, I am really going to miss ya. I love your domain name, I love your link list and the unique feel to it. I know full well that you will be a success at whatever you move on to. Hard to devote time and energy to something that doesn't really pay off anymore, I know. If you change your mind, holler.... you will be welcomed back with open arms.

Thank you for your wit and warmth.... your friendship and kindness. You are one in a million, Joey.

Good luck for the future.

Allfetish 2009-06-27 05:14 PM

Good luck to you, sir.

I once did the same and I highly advise you to just put it all on some cheap hosting and pay the pennies a day for your main domains. That way if you do decide to come back you still can easily. I walked away in 2002 and almost had to start from scratch in 2004. I had no domains when I came back because I intentionally let them expire, although I was still getting checks from previous work. I had to pull a comeback in 2004 and on...

When I walked away in 2002 I was making 1k+ a month even without touching any sites for almost a year at that point. This business has certainly became A LOT harder.

That's what I realised aswell, but it's not doing 'nothing' is it... you spend a lot of time building pages and stuff, but you don't really learn anything useful other than basic html, image editing and maybe a bit of basic scripting - if that. I think one good way to stay in the business is to make it secondary to learning programming or design or something to do with it in depth, then if all else fails you still have something to show for the time invested that can be used elsewhere.

bluemoney 2009-06-28 09:25 AM

Good luck dude! Sorry to see you go.

pc 2009-07-02 05:59 PM

And he pulled the plug.

good luck StarMan
