Using movies and pics on the same site

I know that 120 seconds of movies on a free site is what most require but what about mixing movies and pics on a free site?

Would one gallery of movies totaling 60 seconds and one gallery of 12 pics be acceptable to most?

Or maybe 8 pics and a couple of 15 sec vids in each gallery?

I think it's a great idea. Anything that's a little different from the same old sites each day is nice.

JohnnyR 2007-06-20 05:27 PM

I think it's a good idea to offer samples of both as well. Maybe a bit of hassle to work with both contents, but who knows, it might be worth it.

Maybe someone (GG) should put up a rule about this. Content shouldn't be split right in half tho... we should have an equivalent, like # of pics <=> seconds of movies, and the wm picks what he wants to offer best (most).

plateman 2007-06-20 06:32 PM

I'd go for something like that

ponygirl 2007-06-20 06:35 PM

I like that too, from a builders point of view as well as a reviewer/LL owner. I'm just not sure where you'd put a site like that if you have a movie AND a pic category for the same niche |huh

I'd be tempted to put it in pics unless it had mostly movies.

Greenguy 2007-06-20 07:39 PM

No - because I have movie only categories (and a movies only Link List) and I don't see where I could list sites that mix the 2.

Jel 2007-06-21 02:25 AM

Works here.

You have movie only catagories but someone can submit a movie site to the actual niche and not the movie catagory for that niche. If someone submitted a half-and-half site to the non movie catagory, wouldn't that work?

Why would I list a milf movie site in the Milf category when I have a Milf Movies category?

that's my only problem with it too.

I'm finding as my categories get more and more filled, sometimes the only way to split them is into movie categories. Then you not only have to have a content rule (ie: 6 pics = 15 sec movie for ex) but you also have to decide how much of each puts it in which category (is 1 clip enough to put it in movies? what if it has 12 pics, 15 pics etc) you can see where this is going...I want reviews to get easier not harder |loony|

Having said that, if everyone started building them like that and were getting accepted, I'd probably try to find a way to list them. Yes, I'm sheep, but only up to a certain point :D

Rut-roh, I guess I better change some recip links :D I guess I overlooked the niche specific movie catagories. I'll get that fixed.

Most link lists only have a general "Movie" catagory which to me is a crap shoot. I'm "hoping" someone looking in that catagory is interested in the niche of my site. Everything's all lumped together. A movie site submitted to the niche catagory for that site is getting targeted traffic that's already interested in my niche. |thumb

(Note to self, fix recip tables)

I`ve tried it before, but GreenGuy rejects it :)

stuveltje 2007-06-21 04:26 PM

the only mixed movie, pics sites i have seen where the 120 movies galleries and as a extra the pics, so nop i cant accept 60 second movies sites at the linksites i am reviewing and not own, sorry for that:( although i can make an acception for persons i know:D) and at suveltjes porn, i just accept what i like and dont keep by the rules:D

I wonder sometimes if the number of categories is approaching "too many". I've only been doing this a month or so, but as a long time porn surfer, I know I usually don't have a specific category in mind when I'm looking for porn, maybe a broad category like "teens"...and I'm not into gay stuff, but when presented with a gazillion categories, I might think too much about what I want and not click on anything..maybe move on.

Can you kill a good thing with too many damn choices???

Maybe...I dunno.

Cleo 2007-06-21 08:26 PM

I have no problem listing mixed sites but then I don't split my cats into movies and pics.

SheepGuy 2007-06-21 09:20 PM

I'd like to get rid of my movie category but I have too many trades on it.

virgohippy 2007-06-21 11:04 PM

Everytime I've talked to non-webmaster consumers of porn I notice that those who seek out only movies never pay for porn. For that reason I'm hesitant to make a distinction between pics and movies.

My intuition tells me mixing the two seems ideal, all things considered, though I've nothing significant to back that with.

My stats have improved since I started doing movie only free sites. And some of the hottest converting sponsor sites are themed on movies. :)

why is that sheepguy? you want to put the movies to your general categories or you don't want movies anymore or what?

spacemanspiff 2007-06-22 07:25 AM

Fine with me.

Same here. I actually get a few submissions like this already.

I still want movies! Just in hindsight I'm thinking it would be better to have them mixed in with the pics more in the niches. I definitely want movies though :D

So mix them in the categories as well, have a movie icon or something... in the meanwhile you can live them in the movies category too as a way for the movie-looking surfer to find them quicker...

or something :)

Regarding the subject at hand, I see ponygirl's and GG's point too. If you have movie categories then it probably be a pita to decide where these freesites go...

except if you add a 3rd type of categories: mixed milf sites :D

That's very interesting...perhaps a new thread would be in order, but I have wondered about pics vs movies. I seem to get more traffic from movie sites. Of course 10 movies is more server space than 20 pics, so there is a cost. If movies convert better, I'm sure the additional expense of server space would be well worth it.

I list all sites on one category page which I think is better for my submitters. Plus I list each link forever (so far anyway). Once a cat page gets to about 200 links, it's pretty big, and imo, isn't really good for anyone. I didn't want to add pages (ie. page 2,3 etc for each category) so what other choice is there than to split them up? Some categories are hard to split, so movies/pics is one of the only ways. The category may get less traffic to each specific page, but hopefully it is more filtered traffic too. Plus maybe surfers will check out more pages than they normally would, stay on my site longer and maybe find something new they like ;)

I see better stats with movie sites too (which is funny cuz I didn't even want to do them lol) but the sites I promote now are usually movie sites, with little in the way of pic content. So I don't know if it's because of the movies, or the sites. My bandwith usage is up, of course, but surprisingly not as much as I thought it would be.
