How much is left?

I miss this business. Is there anything left?

Are there places to get back into the biz? (By places, I mean business strategies.)

I had been hoping that as many of the submitters and small fry left, that it might be profitable again to do some of the kinds of work we used to do. Any sign of that occuring?

Porn is on a slow spiral down the loo. I don't see that changing any time soon.

Seems to be getting worse.

I'm mostly deigning websites in Wordpress theses days.

I'm actully thinking of getting out of the building and submitting game so that I can switch to much cheaper hosting.

Sad, very sad. :(

Bill, it is VERY hard for someone new starting out without a budget to get traffic.

Back in the day you could start building galleries and free sites and get traffic from a variety of sources, today those sources have little traffic other than to make beer money. You can still do gallery submits IF you have money to buy the partner accounts. You can start a pay site IF you have money to buy traffic and ad space or patience and money to go the gallery submit route and organic traffic route.

Today porn is much like the variance between the rich people in the US, the 1%, and the other 99% fighting to get by. The big guys/companies are growing because they have budget for ad space and/or internal traffic from other pay sites they own to grow new ones.

There is one thing that is taking off for many people and that is tube submits. Some people live off it now making pretty good money much like professional gallery submitters and free site builders were in the mid 2000's. I've started doing them for Pornstar Legends and Hungarian Honeys. So far limited results though PSL is making some sales from them. An example of an affiliate doing tube submits (like free site and TGP submitters use to) is AdultTubeSubmits people.

I was "boycotting" this thread because I don't really want more abuse. But I suppose I aught to reply:

Albert Einstein once said "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them"

Someone else once said "Don't work harder, work smarter."

Porn webmasters say "If something worked twenty years ago, but stopped working about a decade ago, and has been getting worse and worse ever since, keep doing the same thing because it will eventually work again. Oh, and don't try to be smart, just work harder and harder, so that you spend hours more at your computer every day but also earn less and less every day."

That is why this business is going to hell in a handcart.

I have on several occasions stated what works for me. I get a good return per surfer on my websites. I make this money by advertising non-porn products on porn websites, it is a hell of a lot more profitable that trying to sell porn to people who know how to get porn for free!

As I said, I have mentioned this several times. Every time I do, I get angry vitriolic replies. True, occasionally some people will argue with me constructively but mostly I get replies along the lines of "you are an asshole - go fuck yourself". Useless Warrior even tried to get G. to ban me from this board for suggesting the blasphemy of selling something that is not porn!

And the stupid thing is that this is not an original idea. No other industry that I am aware of exclusively sells the one thing it "gives away". TV shows don't only sell stuff related to the program you are watching, magazines don't only sell things related to whatever the magazine is about (even porn magazines advertise non-porn products), etc.. But the moment I suggest we follow suit, not only do I get a lot of replies saying "No I sell porn, I don't want to sell anything else." I also get a lot of vitriolic replies along the lines of "Shut up, fuck off, and die."

Porn webmasters will not even consider changing the way they work, even though their dwindling bank balances prove this to be a stupid policy - that is the number one reason this business is doing so badly.

And the number two reason is laziness. The few people who offer more constructive criticism answer that "most non-porn sponsors won't allow you to sell on porn sites." This is true, but the key word is "most". There are some that do allow it, some even encourage it. But they take looking for. And it would appear that no adult webmaster is prepared to do the work required to find them. After all, porn sponsors are easy to find, so why bother looking for new sponsors who will make you good money when you can use a porn sponsor who will make you enough to pay your hosting, and, if you are lucky, a couple of cents a day profit!

But I am wasting breath repeating this yet again. Everyone reading this will ignore it (most will have stopped reading this post by now). If you don't believe me, follow a few sigs to the poster's site. You are unlikely to find anything but ads for porn that the surfer need not buy because they can get it for free. Then search this board for other posts by these webmasters, and a dollar gets you a cent that they will have also posted, several times, about how little this business makes for them these days!

Me, I'm no longer worried about this. Webmasters will continue to bury their heads in the sand until the only people left making money out of free sites will be me and the tubes.

And I ain't certain about the tubes!

Let me sum all of that up in one sentence...
Selling porn isn't profitable, so use free porn to sell other stuff.

I can do even better than that. I'm currently designing an affiliates site for my book, and I managed to paraphrase this down to an even shorter sentence than yours. Just three words (quoted from Darwin):

"Evolve or die!"

:)

Not making as much but still enough for a big house and two new cars with adult affiliate programs.

Mainstream marketing is where the money is at... 500 to 1500 monthly inbound marketing for medium size businesses.
