With Netflix's newest price hike, for the first time, I am considering cancelling it. I rarely watch anything on there anyway. I feel like someday soon, they will only list their in-house content and no longer license the few shows I used to enjoy.

Thoughts?

I pretty much watch it for their in-house content...

Never even heard of it. I cannot stand commercials. I cancelled Amazon Prime because of their preroll ads, even though they were for their own content.

I mostly watch random YouTube videos. Right now, I'm binge-watching some dude's videos about Bangkok's nightlife. He doesn't talk. He just wanders around "Walking Street" with what I assume is a hidden camera. He points out the ladyboys in the subtitles. I spent about a week watching only short plane crash documentary-style vids. Good stuff. |loony|

JustRobert 2019-01-18 10:14 AM

Everything keeps going up in price so another dollar or two does not bother me especially when they are investing in their own content.

Plus they just announced a new show with Steve Carell:

We "made" all our kids watch all the Monty Python movies and some of the skits from Flying Circus when they were teens. It is funny to hear them still quote lines from those nearly 20 years later :D

EDIT:
Forgot to mention a new season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is coming :)

JustRobert 2019-02-05 10:45 AM

I did finish the last season of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and though I thought some of it was bad it did have enough moments of quirky hilarity to make it worth it.

I've added a bunch of new stuff to the queue but have been wrapped up in other stuff that has stopped me from the Netflix binge so who knows when I'll get to it all.

JustRobert 2019-02-06 12:41 PM

So yesterday I decided to start watching the new season of Punisher. That turned into me just sitting on the couch, no laptop, and getting through 11 episodes. I'll watch the last 2 today while waiting on the estimate dude.

This is something I have not done since before my wife was diagnosed with cancer 16 months ago. It was nice but I sure felt like a slacker, since I only worked 4 hours, when I went to bed last night :D

Ramster 2019-02-07 10:35 AM

Netflix new price increase sucks but I do watch it and my daughter watches Netflix all the time so I'm paying it. I think it's worth it. Cable I'd love to dump but my wife is addicted to the stupid housewife shows and other reality TV crap.

Punisher season 2 was good |thumb

Now I need to read through this thread more for what to watch next

Greenguy 2019-02-10 08:09 AM

In the last 36 hours, I finished F Is For Family|lol|, binged on Season 2 of The Punisher |thumb |thumb, watched The Bill Murray Stories & Filmworker about Leon Vitali who gave up a promising film career to basically devote his life to Stanley Kubrick (it was really good).

JustRobert 2019-02-10 10:40 AM

I did watch the Valentines special from Big Mouth which made me |lol|

JustRobert 2019-02-16 10:58 AM

I finished the new season of Friends from College and now watching Medici both of which I really enjoy.

JustRobert 2019-02-20 10:36 AM

For those that don't know. The last of the Marvel shows, Jessica Jones and Punisher, have been canceled. Who knows if they will continue when they move, more below.

If you have not seen them and want to you should do so as these will probably be all removed some time later this year as Disney will be introducing their streaming services and they own the rights to Marvel and should be pulling all their content out of Netflix. They own Disney, ABC, Marvel Studios, Lucas Films and others.

Now, I did finish Medici which I liked and have now started a series called Happy. 1st episode had a rough start but by the end I found certain elements quite funny. Watched 3 episodes last night and it's just entertaining enough to finish the series.

My son and I binge-watched that series. We loved it. My son NEVER watches TV, which means that "Happy" was just quirky enough to hold his attention.

When you throw in that all the Marvel & Star Wars movies now go to Netflix 1st before any cable movie channel (I assume they outbid HBO, Showtime, etc.) that is really bizarre |crazy|

Think about it this way, Disney is in direct competition with HBO (owned by Time Warner) and Showtime (owned by CBS) so it makes sense to put the bulk of their stuff on Netflix which they were not competing with at least in the beginning. That has changed with Netflix mass investment into original content in series and movies.

I heard rumor about Disney stream service 2 years ago which is why I thought it was strange they put so many of their animated movies on Netflix but it makes sense. They have hooked, like my grandson, on the ability to watch their movies over and over anytime on their tv, phones and tablets. So when it is only on Disney stream my daughter will be signing up like millions of other families.

JustRobert 2019-02-21 11:05 AM

Speaking of original content this looks good:

:D

I did finish Happy and it was quirky and funny but the subject matter, even though I knew it was heading that way, always leaves me uneasy.

Greenguy 2019-03-04 07:36 AM

I watch Fyre: The Greatest party That Never Happened and Holy Fuck! Good doc |thumb

JustRobert 2019-03-06 12:42 PM

I finished The Umbrella Academy and it was enjoyable. I actually wished there were more episodes to watch.

The Ken Jeong comedy special was pretty good as well.

JustRobert 2019-03-08 09:32 AM

I binged the whole season of Russian Doll yesterday (only 8 half hour episodes) and liked this one as well.

Greenguy 2019-03-08 10:00 AM

I have soooooooooo many shows to watch.......
