45 min to 1 hour downtime this evening form three of my sites

I am in the same situation as the previous post :(. Due to a router change by my hosting company, www.eroticalady.com, www.thepornroom.com and www.sexlesbian.org will be down for short time this night (09.11.2006). The hosting company says will be for only 45mins to one hour but you never know. Please do not blacklist me for that.
Thanks,
Sadman

My guess is it's dreamhost.
I would like to share this thread with you sadman and announce another downtime on dreamhost hosting. Copy and paste:

The upshot of this is we’ll be having another network maintenance window tomorrow, September 13th, at 10pm PDT

Please don't blacklist my sites www.doortoxxx.com for this

Me too. Affected domain is desktopwanker.com :(

Damn, you guys should really be thinking about a new host. An hour of downtime is unacceptable for a router change. I know we have had several equipment upgrades at colo-cation.com and it has never caused us downtime.

Lemmy 2006-09-13 07:26 AM

This is more than just a hiccup during a router change. It's their whole business model. They're giving away bandwidth like it's growing on trees. I currently have 2.2 TB/month and they're slapping on an extra 100 or so each month I stay with them. For this I am paying about $230/year. Something's gotta give.

I'm baffled by the comments on their blog. 90% of the posters seem to think DH is the greatest company on earth. Clearly they are not relying on their websites' uptime and performance for a living. Meanwhile DH is making all sorts of excuses blaming CISCO, but no word of compensation to their customers (which eventualy probably will come...in the form of more bandwidth |crazy| ).

The sites I have hosted with DH have been running like molasses for the past week or so (when they're up) and I'm being rejected left and right for connection issues, and it's my own damn fault for thinking I could get something for nothing. You get what you pay for. As much as I'd like to go with Colo I simply can't justify the cost right now, but I will get all my shit moved to a better host within the month.

Another dreamhosted here, so I will have another |banghead| downtime. Domain is my-asian-kitty.com .

As Lemmy, I would love be hosted by Colo-cation, but I cannot afford it right now :(

Jim 2006-09-13 08:58 AM

Sparky has some cheap packages at colo-cation.com

sadman 2006-09-13 09:31 AM

Thanks for understanding, Jim. Indeed, is DH and how Lemmy was saying they have quite good prices. But...:(. Anyway, I have only few ites hosted there and if that keeps going probably I'll move. I didn't dare yet to think to co-location but that time should come:).
Thanks again,
Sadman

Jim 2006-09-13 09:56 AM

I have checked all his prices. And, it looks like he can match almost anyone. Except for the people that charge a few dollars/year. But, I would stay away from those hosts.

Just an fyi...
colo-cation is why we no longer accept hosting advertisers. Not only because he takes such good care of us but because I really can't recommend anyone else.

Preacher 2006-09-13 12:16 PM

This is good to know because my bot pulled a few of these listings. I'll keep an eye on this thread and get those re-listed when things clear up.

|thumb |thumb for colo-cation. The only problem I can see with everyone moving to them is that we'll all be in the same IP range :D , but their service and support is the best.

MrYum 2006-09-13 02:22 PM

No worries here guys...I won't yank anything based on this issue.

But, I will take the opportunity to say 'cheap' hosting just isn't worth it. I've tried cheap hosting twice, both times it bit me in the ass...NEVER again!

I know money is tight for some of you folks, but damn...hosting is the lifeblood of your business. Even if you're not making sales yet, invest $40 or $50/month in a quality host...it'll pay for itself in the long run |thumb

kitty_kate 2006-09-14 02:04 PM

Hi again

It seems that the upgrade was succesfull and things are getting back on track. Alertra tells me that my domain had around 40 minutes of downtime in the last 24 hours.

Hopefully it will all run smooth enough to make some sales |thumb
