How Figure Out the Value Of a Domain

Ok since all i have ever done is buy and build i have no idea how to access the value of a domain i am looking to sell a few some i have had for years but no longer have the time it takes to work on them . so again a name such as fuckntube dot com how would i price such a domain if i decided to sell it ? any input would be great

petergg2 2010-08-16 07:41 AM

that domains is worth about $9 like eg.

FUCKANDTUBE.COM
FUCKINGNTUBE.COM
FUCKNTUBES.COM
TUBENFUCK.COM

instead You have there a lot of traffic - but You dont say anything about that ;)

so domain value is

1. typo traffic (eg. You have domain pornmovies.com or pizza.com :) )
2. amount of traffic You have generated

You need at least one from this two thing's (better both) to get mor emoney than cost domain registration ;)

Unless it's a great domain it is not worth a lot (other than what someone is willing to pay for it)

I'd try to get $100 for it or maybe $50 for. Try $200, whatever. You never know til you try. Just put OBO as well.

Apparently, a domain like HotNina.com, with no traffic & no content, is worth around $2000 :D

the reason im asking as i am wondering if its worth paying to have them apraised . Thanks for the input folks :)

Appraisal companies haven't the faintest fucking idea what a domain is worth IMO

Someone that's in adult with EXPERIENCE at selling domain names would be better.

Put it on Sedo at a high price and see what happens?

so while on this thread, i hope no one minds me asking...
what about domains with hypens in them...are they worth something if decently named..
examples:
xxx-bbws.com
free-tours.com
cyber-tits.com
cute-tits.com
local-stippers.com
lonely-women.com
bargains-and-deals.com
ect..

i mean would they by name alone(not counting traffic) be worth as much as say bigbbws.com would be?
anyone?

No

Voltar 2010-08-17 10:25 AM

would that be because of the type in not being there..?
because i know the SEs like the hyphens..
or some other reason i'm not sure of?

and thanks for the imput BTW!

I sold a couple of fairly high profile names quietly a few years ago.
No auction and no appraisal.

They are ONLY worth what someone is willing to pay for them.

Id spend more time and money trying to locate a buyer than paying some "Domain Critic" [anyone remember that assclown?] to tell you a value.

Hyphens are really there for search engines not surfers.

Surfers get confused by hyphens (eg if someone is looking for lonely-women.com there is a good chance they will type in lonelywomen.com).

However search engines see hyphens as spaces. So if the site is lonely-women.com they will harvest the key phrases "lonely", "women" and "lonely women". But if the domain were lonelywomen.com the only keywords it would see are "lonely" and "women".

Voltar 2010-08-17 06:45 PM

yea that's the reason i started buying them back in the 90's :)
have gotton lots of love from the SEs from them...
and thanks for jumping in and giving some feedback too!

Search engine algorithms have gotten much better in the last 5 years. Google, Yahoo and Bing have no problem parsing domains without hyphens.

A domain like fuckntube dot com is worthless without spending time, money and effort on branding, development and promotion. Let it expire and move on.

Don't waste your money on paid appraisals. You can get quality appraisals from experienced domainers for free at some of the domain forums.

anything and everything is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I know this sounds trite, but just get into one of those auctions that allow you to pull back if you don't get what you want. Just don't expect a lot. If you get a grand for a typical site just following typical rules on the sale you should be happy, so if you are making more than that you should keep it around just for traffic which is probably worth a lot more if you work it right.
