So you are using 12-year-old Windows XP software and wondering why it isn't working right? |banghead|

Also, having been forced to use Apple equipment for several months, Chrome XP is a lot more advanced than anything Apple uses! (And it can cope with Flash.) So one would worry that it will break for all you poor Apple users soon. Plus, this is a webmaster's board, and webmaster's should be using the lowest form of computer that their surfers are liable to use, and that is XP. |
Nothing been changed with the board in years.

ecchi,
I've used Linux for over 12 years. [If it weren't for a couple of programs that will only run properly on Windows, that's all I would use.] Try Linux Mint. Based on Ubuntu, it is currently the most popular form of Linux. It tries to ease Windows users into the new OS with a familiar look and feel. If you're machine is really old and slow then try Lubuntu. You can even dual boot with XP if you want. You'll get access to latest open source software plus Chrome, Skype, Flash amongst others. Cheers, Art |

If it were not for work, I'd still be running on Workbench/Kickstart (which is pre-Windows)! I'm not worried about not being able to see this board on Chrome, it still works for me on IE, so if G does not care, no problem. However, I have not changed my software, and Chrome stopped updating ages ago (XP version), so if what Cleo said is correct, then there is probably a problem at the host's end. And that should be checked out before the whole pack of cards crumbles. |
XP is no longer supported, which means that there are NO upgrades or security fixes at all. Most people out there do not have computers that old anymore. I do have my little netbook that still runs XP, but it is so slow I have finally put it to sleep. It's 7 years old and cannot be upgraded in any way. Older operating systems that are not being updated are huge security risks, especially if you use that computer for web development. There are reports out there that show less than 5% of ALL users are running XP. If your users are too poor to buy a machine that is more up to date, they are too poor to buy porn.
I am sure there is some crackpot out there still using Windows 98 or 95 even to get by, just because he still can. MML and Cleo preached long ago to keep your code simple. If you do that, the poor guy stuck with that antique OS will still be able to view your sites. I'm with Cleo on this one. Are you even able to find any sort of virus protection and malware scanner to protect your computer? My mainstream network got hacked last month and one of the very first things the tech asked me was what virus protection and malware scanner I am using. My machine is clean, but I have a good friend that I host who had a trojan lurking. He brought my entire 15 domain mainstream network down because he was not up to date. |
Both of what Cleo said...

We should start a fund to get echhi a new sys. The stoneage was over ages ago.

(Actually I do use a corded ball mouse on my Windows 98 computer because that computer does not understand them new fangled ball-less cable-less mice, and thinks they are witchcraft.)
|
And yes, I have a 98 computer for when the XP is too advanced!
(Some really old software won't work on XP or later.) |
