BLOG POWER!

Marketing Tip: Overcome Your FEAR OF BLOGS and Set Yourself Up for Adult Blogging Success By Stacie Adams, GameLink, Stacie@gamelink.com

A blog is a website where entries are written in order of the date created and displayed with the most recent posts first. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

I start with the definition of a blog to avoid aggravating your fear. Many tutorials I have encountered assume a lot, and this can make you feel like an outsider. This article is for you if you have very little experience blogging, if you barely know what a blog is, or if you are so overwhelmed by the subject that you haven’t started blogging, even though you know you should.

Even if you don’t know it yet, you probably visit sites that are published through blogging software every day. These sites use free web-based content publishing tools like blogger.com or wordpress.org to simplify the process for updating their sites and to let the search engines know to expect frequently updated content. To the visitor, it may appear like a “normal” website with many different pages the difference is that this “normal” website also has one “blog” page that gets updated daily or weekly. To the search engines, the site appears much more interesting than one built without using blogging tools, because search engines value fresh content.

Blogs have become the fastest and easiest way to naturally rise to the top of the list of search terms for a given topic. This is partially due to how they facilitate content syndication. The content can be automatically included in other blogs, web pages, and applications designed to “pull in” feeds from multiple blogs. For webmasters, this means you can gain many more readers and subscribers, while consumers get a convenient list of blog feeds as an alternative to emails in their bloated inbox. This content is “aggregated” through applications called “feed readers” that allow subscribers to review a large amount of online content in a very short time.

So, if you aren’t using blogs, you are probably spending more time and money to get the same amount of traffic as your blogging competitors.

Now that you are over your FEAR of BLOGS and you understand that you will be making friends with the search engines and making it easier for visitors to remember to return to your site, let’s set you up for blogging success. The very first step is becoming an active consumer of blog content.
