Hosting, Telnet and crontabs

I really don't know where to go with this.

Basically I've purchased Blogs Organiser and to run it properly I have to set up cronjobs. I asked my Hosting Company to do it but they said I have to Telnet the server which immediately made my eyes glaze over.|huh

I've Googled Telnet and crontab so I've now got a vague idea what they are but am I correct in thinking the Hosting Company should do it?
My Hosts don't have a Cpanel either. Would I be better off changing hosting company? Apart from this they've always been very helpful to me. Or am I asking too much of them? I just don't know, and anybody else's experience or views would be gratefully received.
Cheers.

Hello Japamor,

Well first of all giving your current host I think is the best thing to do, setting up Cronjobs is not really much of a big deal for a decent systems Administrator.

Dependant upon the host though if you are on a self-managed server then you should also have the access to set them up and it is not a bad thing to learn as they can be very common. Another option might be to seek the assistance of a remote administrator to assist you, this would allow you to maintain your current host, while accomplishing the required task.

Finally if you do choose to move I would certainly like the opportunity to earn your hosting. At http://www.Caro.Net we can help you with your migration and setting up Cronjobs for our clients is something we can certainly assist you with, in addition to offering you various control panels.

Thanks in advance, good luck, and Happy Holidays.

I have a shit load of blogs running with BO and have no idea of how to setup Cronjobs or Telnet I just contact the guys at colo-cation when I need a Cronjobb setup.
BTW Cronjob just needs to be set once for BO

Secure servers typically have Telnet disabled. It's probably more of a security threat than FTP. That's saying a lot.

And as MMemmer said, unless you are on a completely unmanged box, I can't see why your host wouldn't do it. Most control panels have a built-in feature for setting up cronjobs quickly and easily.

Thanks everyone.
That's very helpful and has set me straight on a number of points.

I'm obviously not being unrealistic in expecting a hosting company to set up cronjobs. It looks as though a change of hosting is the only sensible answer.

Cheers :)
