I Finally Know What It Feels Like To Be A Trump Supporter.

Let me explain...

On Wednesday, I see this on Twitter. It's a video of Trump saying that we've won the war in Syria & our troops are coming home & coming home now. 3 things immediately ran thru my mind:
1 - I don't like war. I can't think of anyone I know that likes war. This is great!
2 - Troops are coming home now? A week before Christmas? That's fucking great for them & their families! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
3 - We won! USA!! USA!! USA!!
I have no problem with any of this & I'm basically thinking that he's finally done something I agree with.

On Thursday, little things start to trickle out...
Israel's pissed we're pulling out. Aren't we friends with them?
Russian's happy we're pulling out. Well, that can't be good.
Another "Mission Accomplished"? Oh no.....
Defense Secretary James Mattis resigned? OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE!!!!

So for about 12 hours, based only on what fucktard said on the Twitter, I'll admit I was a Trump supporter (good thing I slept for 8 of those 12). And I should know better. I mean, really - it's fucking Twitter, which is now the only widely used Social Media platform where you can still openly post dick pics #RIPTumbler. It never crossed my mind to go to any legit news source & get more info. I know I bought into it because he's actually telling the truth, since this is one of those things that he can't really lie about, like basically everything else (unless he didn't pardon those turkeys last month...)

Moral of the story: Even if it sounds like good news, if it comes from Trump's mouth, feel free to bet your life that it's not.

G'afternoon |santa|

Performed at our xmas-lunch today, it went far better than last Friday.
Finally the moment I've been waiting for has arrived.
I will hardly leave this apartment for 12 days. (|dog-walk not included)

I'm terrified over everything Whitehouse and I do follow your news-coverage. I tend to seek out US-papers since Norwegian coverage is kinda lame. I mean, If I see a Trump-headline in a Norwegian paper and goes to US-papers to check, I often find nothing about what Norwegian paper wrote about. That news wasn't worth mentioning over the pond. Very often.
At some point his supporters must start to wake up?
I mean, there's so freakin' much going on and even his right wing media is starting to loose its patience.
(Kinda fun watching that Fox-guy go hard on Rudy Guiliani who probably didn't expect resistance at Fox |lol||lol|)

Anyhow, I felt like rambling a bit over politics as well.
And I really didn't like Mattis resigning. Steve Bannon secretary of Defence? Then even me will start |pray|

Edit: Any US-papers you guys would recommend?
I read Politico and Washington Post. I used to read Huff as well, but maybe Huff is a bit to liberal-friendly? Like sort of opposite of Fox?

Anyhow, try to enjoy your pre-xmas day

I want to say something but I won't. Okay, I will. I just don't get people who support Trump. You know Republicans. I understand that some are facing economic hard times, love their guns or whatever but Trump just screams slime and con job to me. How can they not see it? How can it not matter to them? WTF SMH

On Twitter I follow,

maggie habberman (New York Times journalist)
david frum ("Never Trump" Republican and writer)
josh marshall (Talking Points Memo website owner and writer)
ronan farrow (New Yorker journalist)

Their retweets cover off everything about Capital Hill news.

The Washington Post and New York Times are the best papers but are restricted unless you have a subscription. I usually read CNN.

If I don't have sports on, CNN is what I watch while I'm in my office, so I'd probably recommend them for general overall US news (and Art makes a good point about WaPo & NYTimes)

But if you're looking for really honest US & global news about the big stuff as well as some really great topics that rarely get covered, I recommend Vice. Oddly enough, you'll probably enjoy the story that's currently on the top of their site titled: "From Fuzz Boxes to AI - Six decades of psychedelics and music in harmony"

I just scrolled thru the list & other than Jefferson Airplane, I have no idea who the fuck those bands are|lol|

I'll skip commentary on #45 but state I like to listen to many voices for news though it does lean a bit more left and progressive than right and conservative at this moment. This has not always been the case but our political parties have changed.

Even Obama stated that the policies he ran on would of made him a moderate republican in the eighties.

Thanks for the tips guys, Vice looks very interesting!!!
I did recognize like 6-7 bands, pretty obscure stuff most of it.
They did, however, also include some rap, that ain't music |angry||angry|

For US news, I tend to read several just to get a feel for what is going on, then try to draw my own conclusions. NPR News is pretty solid, as is Reuters. I do read CNN/FoxNews with a big grain of salt because they are there to sell their programming, not present the news. Generally, if a story is reported on all 4, it is true. BBC/Sky News is also a good choice for English-language news on this side of the pond. Huff Post is just good entertainment. I do have the local news stations in several cities that I also check if something is happening as well. You can't trust just one outlet. I miss the days of Walter Cronkite.

Noticed a discussion in a Facebook-version of this thread |couch| and couldn't help but see that one argument once again was how fake the news is.
Although I never acted as a journalist, I used to work in various media and media-related jobs. Whenever DonaldJ, or one of his supporters, shouts Fake News I can't help but think that the media has been asking for it. Watching how they didn't take his candidature seriously (who did, btw?) and how media over the years has turned into a click-bait whore, they sort of brought this upon himself.
A lot of serious newspapers etc *has* started to take this seriously, but I'm afraid they did that a bit to late.
The despot-behaviour of your President is kinda scary. (And believe me, we got this here too, now. Right wing politicians burning newspapers in photos, refusing to talk to certain papers and crying 'bias' and 'fake' whenever needed).
I have no idea how the media should solve this. Other than continue to be as honest as possible. If he does something good, say so, when he does something bad, dig dig dig.

It's funny (in a sad way) how he attacks SNL and liberal news saying they're biased and saying they should be investigated by law(!!!) when all he does in WH (except for ruining a lot of stuff) is watching TV and that is Fox News.
Scary.

Oh, I started to ramble, but as a 'media man' this occupies my mind a lot. And what I tried to say in a million words is; the "fake news" has been digging the grave themselves.

Jolly
