The value of your spouse's name?

http://www.toni-hatcher.com

Received a call from a man stating that I had his wife on a site which in the end was bullshit. I do have a traffic pump that bears the same name as his wife. The truth is that the stage name of the model is "Toni" and we pulled "Hatcher" out of the air.

Toby 2006-02-21 06:54 PM

As long as the photos are someone other than this guys wife, then he is owed nothing. I'll wager that there are three or four women here in Houston alone with that same name.

Toni KatVixen 2006-02-21 06:59 PM

Hell, my name is Toni, does that mean I should have it? Nope! There are lots of women named Toni.

Simon 2006-02-21 07:02 PM

Offer it to him in trade would be one other suggestion.

Of course I don't know the value of the domain to you or what kind of traffic it collects for you. But if you offer to trade for something and let him be the one to offer something in trade you may be surprised.

But if he's being (or turns into) a dick on the phone, then I'd go with choice #1 with a smile.

Simon

I think, unless you create a name/word, it's been pretty much used somewhere - somehow... have him produce an exclusive registered license to the use of the name... :D

Or... lol... just tell him she gave you permission the night befor...

I'd consider two things.

1. How was this guy's approach on the phone? Be an ass, be treated like an ass.
2. How much effort have you put into promoting this domain?

docholly 2006-02-21 07:44 PM

You know I find this VERY funny.. |jester| especially knowing the methology used in coming up with the domain names. I voted for be an ass. and do nothing. |thumb

MrYum 2006-02-21 09:50 PM

Sounds like someone who's skin is waaaay too thin! Sheesh...makes one wonder how some people get through life |crazy|

If he at least appeared reasonable on the phone...I'd try to calmly explain that he needs to get a grip. After all, Toni Hatcher is hardly a unique name.

If he was a prick on the phone...fuck him.

Linkster 2006-02-21 11:08 PM

If its not pics of his wife - offer the domain to him at market value of $10k - if he balks, tell him that the next hottest pornstars name is going to be that name and he might want to consider changing his wifes name before you sue him for trademark infringement :)

plateman 2006-02-21 11:31 PM

thats like a john smith thing... you should have told him to call all the other toni hatchers and tell them to change there names....

Fonz 2006-02-22 07:19 AM

Google shows some strange info on your site when you search for Toni Hatcher

"Domain name registration and transfers for $8.88 and less at ..." is your title :)

Look at the cached copy of the page.

Wild_Unicorn 2006-02-22 09:05 AM

This guy sounds like a crank - Keep it and do nothing chop!

Ramster 2006-02-22 09:11 AM

Screw him. He has no right to it at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you do not do much with it then offer to sell it to him. If you use it and it has value tell him nicely Sorry but you have no right to the domain. There are 1000's of women with this name in the US.

Does the guy do online stuff? If not he is an even bigger idiot and the above statement I said is true, many women with the same name. Be nice to him if he is not an online guy and send him some links. LOL

I had just the oposite happen to me many, many years ago. Our second site was called "Victoria's Secret Hideaway". And truthfully, I never ever thought of "Victoria's Secret". But, they did :) And their lawyer sent me a really nasty letter. As you know, my wife's name is Victoria. My isp said "screw them" but...I changed the name of the site. :)

Jim 2006-02-22 10:47 AM

But..to answer your question, ignore them. If you named it Terry Hatcher, then I would worry a bit :)

|thumb Best Idea I've heard in a long time. sign me up|bananna|

PR_Tom 2006-02-22 03:14 PM

Dont do jack. There is probably a few hundred thousand "toni hatchers" out there.

Mr. Blue 2006-02-22 04:56 PM

Tell him to fuck off...hell give me his phone number and I'll tell him to fuck off (I'm in a grumpy mood today)

virgohippy 2006-02-23 04:20 AM

Good point Jim.

Ignore him. Anything more might reinforce the relationship. If he's got a real claim to the name you'll hear it from a lawyer... like Jim did. :D

Then you can hire one of your own, and see who's willing to waste more $$$ on one domain name. |loony|

digifan 2006-02-26 12:12 PM

Hmm if she has a rare find name like Mary Onassis it is not a question.. but with this name being not a special one I don't think you should sell or transfer them the domain.
