Video Codecs

What does everyone know or use for video codecs? I of course do everything in h264 codec for site members areas but I have a guy telling me I should be doing them in h265 (guy being a producers). Problem is when I play h265 codecs, they pixelate and I have a LOT of codecs on my computers, a lot! So if I cannot play them on windows 10 clearly, can members who, let's face, aren't exactly smart when it comes to computers.

Remember too, the biggest member base is Not millennials lol, so they may not be computer savey to download extra codecs or whatever.

Thoughts or input from anyone?

Yeah, they may not even know how to use a computer as all they know is a smart phone.

I ran into this last week when looking at 4K content we shot for a client. Can watch on windows 10 but not 7 pro. Codecs issue. WAPITA

I've seen some sites, on their support page, list 2-3 options for downloading codecs and how to do it.

So my argument with someone was that he MUST encode it in h264 codec, he was doing in h265 HVEC and insisting it was fine, which it is not fine because most people cannot play those. But he didn't seem to want to listen and offered to "teach me all about codecs some time" |huh

I found this online:

https://www.thewindowsclub.com/play-...-on-windows-10

https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2607246

It says that MS has no built in support for H265.

I'm old so I know this will sound like an old person but....

If I signed up for a membership and could not play the videos I would charge back and move on. That is along as it is not some obscure niche that no one else really covers.
