Which of these footer text links is the best

It is for picture galleries, where there is only one text link on the bottom. Here are the options. You can also add your own text here, I'd appreciate it...

It would depend on how you are marketing the site overall and where you are selling it.

If you are pushing the sponsor using a method that allows the surfer tons of free porn (eg TGP or tube post) I would go with "Take The Free Tour " although I would emphasise the word "free" either with bold text or capital letters (or both). Also I would try to make it seem more like a "special bonus" or "backdoor" method, so I would go with "You can see more FREE porn on the tour, so CLICK HERE to see more FREE porn."

However that method will get you a lot of clicks, but not so many conversions. So if you are not competing with other free porn (eg on a text blog, the type where you talk about sex and have the occasional photo, rather than posting free galleries) I'd go with something that infers there is better porn at the sponsor's site, such as "For the REALLY GOOD stuff click here and join us."

Note the slightly emphasised "join", this does increase conversions slightly.

(For more subtle emphasis you can change the font used on keywords.)

I always found calls to action on galleries very silly. Of course people know where to click and what they can expect. I think a call to action should be a bit more sophisticated in converting those two or three guys who are unable to make up their mind. For them a slogan like "Get 100 bucks if you give her a ride home" will probably do the trick.

Or how about Forget her, she is too young for you. But her mother will let you ride her Porsche while giving you a blowjob.

Yeah, I thought that way years ago, back when I started. But everyone said they were important, so I tested it. And they were right. Calls to action were VERY important. The results varied from site to site, increasing the clicks from about 20% to (in one case) over 100%. And the big eye opener was a non adult site which I calculated would not even make it's hosting cost (this was when hosting was more expensive) without a call to action, but went into profit with one.

To summarise my result:

A link with the word FREE in it gets the least boost from a call to action (presumably because the word FREE is the big draw). The less exciting the offer, the more important the call to action. And if the surfer thinks that clicking gets them to a page where they have have to pay money for something, a call to action makes a BIG difference!

(any newbie reading this and wondering what a "call to action" is, it the words "click here" or similar. As in "Click Here to get more great porn".)

I also find that emphasising the call to action gets more clicks thus:
"Click here for more porn" is OK.
"Click here for more porn" does better.
"CLICK HERE for more porn" does even better.
"CLICK HERE for more porn" does best (either only linking "click here" or using style tags to only show the "click here" underlined).

I also find that putting the click here in italics helps, but this is more NLP than emphasising (it gives the surfer a feeling of urgency, italics make them think they must obey quickly).

The mistake most people make is thinking that they are in the "porn" business or "web design" business. We are not. We are in the "advertising" business. You need to learn good advertising practises more than you need to learn how to design good looking sites or how to get guys horny!

After posting the above I realised that some people reading it may not realise exactly why the words "click here" are so important. It is not to tell them where to click, most people will work that out for themselves. It is because people have a subconscious tendency to obey orders. An advert saying "Members of this site get to have sex with a supermodel of their choice." Will get people thinking "That is nice, I wish I were a member." Then ignore the ad and go on to the next site/gallery giving them free porn. But an advert saying "Click here to join so that you can have sex with a supermodel of your choice." Will get them to click. Or even better "Click here then join this site so that you can have sex with a supermodel of your choice." Will get some people clicking and joining.

If you are reading this and think I am an idiot then test it: I doubt if any of your friends stand when you enter a room. So mentally split them into two groups. Say politely to people in one group "It is good manners to stand when a friend enters the room." and see how few will do so. With the other group say, as an order, as you enter the room "Stand up when I enter the room!" and you will find that most obey the first time you do it (don't keep doing it or they may punch you).

Another test is: When with a friend, when conversation dies, suddenly bark a pointless order at them. Something like "Jump in the air!" "Touch your nose!" "Put your finger in your ear!" You will be amazed how often they obey this stupid command.

Good point. We should order every surfer to get their credit cards before they click continue on :-)

You may well joke, but I remember once seeing a gallery with a link that said something along the lines of "Click here, then use your credit card and join up now." It made me laugh at the time (which is why I remember it), but it probably got them a sale or two.

Your sig is killing me. |lol|
Not ripping on you. It makes a good point.

We've been having decent success with stuff like

See more "XXX" for FREE
Watch More Free Videos

Filthy text or humorous text also seems to uptick.
Great content WINS it!
FREE seems to be the KEY. Just make sure what you are pointing to is worth paying for.
I think psychology of it today is get them to THEIR goal not yours. MAKE their Goal, YOUR Goal.
Most sponsor galleries I use have worthless calls to action so we make our own.

It's been like 8 or 9 years since I stopped making galleries, but whenever I forgot to give instructions to my designers and just told them to "make some new galleries" they would most likely pick a fat, bold line: "Download Now".
I believe it worked.

Yeah, but it is not very effective, haven't sold a single book through it! :( Still it is link popularity for Google (pretty soon I'll be the number one result if you search for "What is a bastard?" !!!!!!!!!!)

These are "filtering links". The idea is that it stops some of the surfers who have no intention of paying any money for anything, so that you get a higher sale to click ratio. It used to make sense when bandwidth was expensive and you did not want to waste money giving free samples to freeloaders. It still makes sense if the sponsor is paying per click, or if you are advertising on something like AdWords. But putting it on FHGs (with a revshare or pay per sale deal) is bloody stupid. Yet most of my sponsors do it! (Which is one of the reasons this business is making so little money - don't blame it all on the tubes!)

Agree completely.

Pirates who have also become programs make the most banal, lame, porn. I think that's a reason as well. Tubes just part of it you are correct.
