Sponsor Chat - Ever Hear Of This One?

Jim & I were just having a lovely conversation with The Butcher over on Sponsor Chat but......

The thread was deleted from his server :(

Jim & I are now also banned from his board.

But.......

We have copies :)

Please forgive the sloppiness of Page 1 - Jim had a feeling that the thread was gonna get shit canned, so he was saving it to an open word document.
Page 1 - http://www.greenguysboard.com/sponso...sorchat00.html

Pages 2 & 3 however, are perfect :)
Page 2 - http://www.greenguysboard.com/sponso...sorchat01.html
Page 3 - http://www.greenguysboard.com/sponso...sorchat02.html

The only thing missing from this thread was my last reply, basically asking for a 3rd time what I asked in my 1st post. The 1st page might be a bit hard to read, but I think everyone will get the gist :)

Jim & I just wanted to get this out & online so that everyone could see - you can make your own judgments :)

Jim 2005-01-01 08:14 PM

WoooHooo
Something for the newsletter :)
I just hate scammers. You are duty bound to drag them to the light so everyone can see them as they are.

DangerDave 2005-01-01 08:34 PM

Never heard of these guys before today.... and I don't think I missed anything.. :(

Cleo 2005-01-01 08:41 PM

This board is the first I have heard of it.

Doesn't look like I should care that I didn't know about them.

GonZo 2005-01-01 08:50 PM

We guessed this to be the case as well.
He hit both me and Nick up for link exchanges telling us the same shit and how he knows how to promote a board.

Im a little nicer....I told him wed be interested but I wanted to talk on the phone. If you look he has his domain name masked as thru a service as well.

Upon further investigation this is a user that Meat busted out earlier in 2004....another pay for post person.

We have a little thread on 'O' about it as well.
Good job!

Torn Rose 2005-01-01 09:03 PM

I do find it strange that the other 28 domains sharing his IP are registered to:

Geez, talking about having a battle of wits with an unarmed person. What is a 'sour loser' anyway? Did you leave a bad taste in his mouth? Were you simply not sweet enough?

Agent 2005-01-01 11:03 PM

It's threads like that which keep me browsing this board alone. I'm a member of a few other boards, some good and some others that are just one big spam/bitch-fest.

I don't know what the guy's intentions were, maybe it was a mistake and he didn't appreciate being corrected in an open forum. Or not.

If I was going to start a webmaster message board I'd probably want to take the advice of someone already established and maybe I'd gain some knowledge and respect at the same time.

A friend of Jim's (or anyone else) may make a friend of other people.

And if you reach success in the future you could always put in a good word or give some support back to those who helped you out in the beginning.

Everyone wins.

Any board that has to pay folks to post can't have enough content or info there to be of any value anyway.
I was however particularly impressed by the professional reply that Jim's post
on the cookie issue was given. NOT
Sounds like a good place if you have a ton of time to waste and no money to make.

Jim 2005-01-02 06:21 AM

I am serious guys
The more he posted the more I thought he was just stupid and less dishonest. But then you look at the bogus members, bogus views, and his claims of massive traffic going to the board and you can see...he is both. And the fraud is so easy to spot. For instance...the birthdays. With the signup process including birthdays, you should have 7000 birthdays on the calendar. And yet, there is much less. When you signup, you must provide your birthday to proceed. Where are they?

Linkster 2005-01-02 06:58 AM

Hmm - kinda weird that he lists the address (misspelled in one word) as the National Admin Center in London where the Insolvency Office (bankruptcy and financial help offices) as his registrant address.
Also noted hes using some other boards (GFY and MensNiche) to catch misspells and typeins to redirect them.

And why would they all be registered in the last two months - and he already has that kind of user levels BS!!!!!!!!!

Jim 2005-01-02 07:13 AM

Linkster, he claims to have over 7000 members in just 2 months. It must have taken him quite a while to put all those bogus members in by hand :) That's about 116 signups/day. And yet, when Greenie signed up, it took 40 hours for the next person.

I love where he claimed that he must have screwed up his views by editing the footer :) So far he has admited to his members online and views are bogus.

Jim 2005-01-02 07:16 AM

And just so everyone knows...I have never been banned nor have I had a thread deleted from any board, ever. I don't believe Greenie has either. Who the hell deletes a thread just because you are called a scammer anyway :) Especially just after saying he could do that but won't.

Now you TGP owners have to keep an eye out for scams :)

MrMaryLou 2005-01-02 07:42 AM

Oh this guy is a classic case |jester|

Greenguy 2005-01-02 07:58 AM

For the love of |buddy| why would you put a TGP on a domain that's a resource site for webmasters?

I do like the submit page - reminds me of 1997 :D

Linkster 2005-01-02 08:03 AM

I loved the newest member this morning was him with a laptop :)

Greenguy 2005-01-02 08:18 AM

Oh shit - I ment to post this yesterday....

Here's the link to the thread on Oprano

(we like to share)

Linkster 2005-01-02 08:43 AM

The weirdest thing - if you go back to the beginning - which evidently was around Nov 3rd - with the first user post on the 13th or so - and check the posts - he was paying people to post and within 2 days of the first "user" post he had to disable someones account for posting 5 useless messages :)

Guess that $.05 was gonna kill him financially |jester|

The other weird thing is that you have some mods - and then all of a sudden there are no user numbers until around a few hundred later and keeps jumping like that - then within a few days he's up to over 3000 members - but none of them are posting for the cash - or even posting at all????? Not even a Hi Im new here post except for a few sponsors spamming their programs

http://www.sponsorchat.com/showthread.php?t=1921 of course this thread is where he credited everyone with 500 posts LOL

Linkster 2005-01-02 08:56 AM

I just reread my own post and something doesnt make sense :)

He lost 7400 posts - ok - we know that kinda thing happens with new boards - it happened on 12-23
Now he posts that hes gonna give all members 500 posts to make up for it - the last person to post in that thread the next day was user #4032 - so if we just assume that he had 4032 users which is probably not even close that means that for the 7400 posts he replaced it with a little over 2 million posts(2,016,000 actually) which at $.05 a post means to make up for the loss of 7400 posts (at $.05 equals $370) he is gonna give members of the board $100,800.00 for their trouble :)

Greenguy 2005-01-02 09:00 AM

I might have jumped the gun on the whois info - after a little more investigating, I did find that http://www.download-paris-hilton-tape.com/ redirects to http://www.sponsorchat.com/ & is owned by:

Good gawd ... that TGP2 article in the first thread is ANCIENT ... it has many misconceptions and errors about TGP2 ... ignore it ... but don't ignore TGP2 as a useful tool to get signups ;)

The more I read that board, the more I develop the personal opinion that it should be ignored ... completely.

Good gawd|crazy|

Jim 2005-01-02 09:04 AM

Linkster
The more you look, the more scams you find. If you look at the conversation we had with him, he claims that his traffic comes from his link trades. I had a hell of a time finding any of his trades linking back to him :) And to claim Alexa has no merit at all, is just crazy.

Linkster 2005-01-02 09:11 AM

Hmm - that leads to some interesting stuff GG

an email that was available leads to this IP
