Looks like it's snowing Friday 09162011

The state is doing controlled burns of the Everglades which is causing ash to fall from the sky and giving me uncontrolled allergies. It did make for a very beautiful, if not alien looking, sunset last night.

Work, gym, more work, grocery shopping, more work, errands and even more work is today's wonderfully boring plans.

Good morning world |waves|

The National Key Deer Refuge began doing controlled burns on parts of their reserve here on the island yesterday too. Almost no one down here thinks it's necessary, except those whose jobs are based on managing wildlife that would do better without all of their management.

Work, no gym, no grocery shopping, more work, no errands, but yes, even more work.

Kind of like the rest of this week has been.

:)

Good afternoon,

It looks like we're finally getting ready for the next government after being governmentless for the past 460 days. All the parties came to some sort of agreement. I could have come up with that 458 days ago...
Ah well, at least we don't have burning deer over here.

Have a good one all!

I had to put the heat on in the house this morning. Just for 20 minutes as the temp was 67. A bit chilly.

I thought of that exact image when I got the email notification of your reply. :D

Fortunately these are pretty small islands so they do a staff walk through of the acres to be burned to be sure the little deer and marsh rabbits are warned something is about to happen. They do this every year and, so far, no deer on fire have been seen.

Up so early. Working on importing some DVDs and some lame store shit. Then it will just be some coding and more importing of some DVDs. Later this afternoon maybe a web meeting with some guy.

Later tonight when I wrap this day up I'll be so excited the day is at least over.

Can't wait to just relax tomorrow.

Probably because there are no deer on the islands, the one in Simon's pic was probable taxidermized by Chuck Testa

I'd like to have Chuck Testa taxidermized.

I've never really seen a big fire.

Friday's alright here. It's cold as shit in NY lately.

Good Morning :)

Back went out this morning so I am laid up in bed, probably for the whole damn weekend :(

At least I have the ability to do a little bit of work while I lay here on ice and take muscle relaxers/pain killers.

Afternoon all

Did some weed picking, raking, and deadheading roses, then a workout. Then worked on some AVS site tweeking, now building my first free site.

No deer on fire here either. We still have a burn ban going on, which means I have huge piles of weeds in my back yard waiting for cooler weather when I can burn them all.

That makes me think of the cane fires in Hawaii when they would burn off the green before harvesting. Drove by those a few times with 20' flames, they were pretty awesome.

Have a good one everyone! |virgohippy|

There is the yearly burning of the sugar cane here too. Fortunately that goes on northeast of where we live so usually the easterly wind off the ocean keeps the smoke away.

Can't you make a compose heap of the weeds?

It Actually Did Snow On The Top Of Mount Washington Yesterday Evening In Northern New Hampshire. And It Was In The Low 50's This Morning Down Here. Brrrrrr

Have A Great Weekend All!

I really, really want to I probably have weeds piled up 5' tall covering an area the size of my living room. But don't I have to grind them all up into chunks to start it?

I don't think so, just keep them damp and they should rot into nice black soil. At least that is what happens to our piles.

Maybe get some compose starter bacteria. I've never had to use it but I live in the tropics where everything rots if left outside.

Haven't read it yet, but Let It Rot is supposed to be a very good guild for composing.
