Non-Reciprocal Links

More and more link list owners seem to think that the practice of adding a secondary link to one of their other sites within the confines of their reciprocal link table is ok. Sometimes it's a link to their new link list, tube site, hub, review site, or a pharmaceutical site. Some owners even expect their submitters to use a link to an entirely different property of theirs instead of a reciprocal link, thus destroying the sole purpose of the reciprocal link: reciprocity. It's such a simple concept: You link to me and I will link to you.

This non-reciprocal linking practice must come to an end and it can only be stopped by the submitters themselves. However, many submitters aren't doing their part to control this ever-increasing epidemic. An amazing amount of submitters merely copy and paste whatever bit of HTML is handed to them on a link list's reciprocal link page and never question the validity of the code contained within. "They'll reject me if I don't use the code they gave me." So what? Are you really going to miss those 5 hits per month? You can reject them first by dropping them from your submission routine until they wise up.

We shouldn't have to sell bumper stickers and tshirts in order to raise awareness of this issue. It should be obvious to the submitter when they are adding reciprocal links to their free site. If a link within the code belongs to any site other than that which you are submitting to, it is NOT a reciprocal link.
