Hosts Down for Maintenance or Some Other Reason

Recently, there have been a rash of posts about webmasters hosts going down for one reason or another.

I have been really thinking, why would hosts have to go down for any reason. Several reasons come to mind but I think the most probable is that in this day and age of cheap bandwidth, any Tom, Dick or Harry can open up a hosting company. You need to be very careful when picking a host. After all, besides content, it is the only business overhead for most.

Imagine being in the brick and mortar world and you owned a newspaper company. Every once in a while, the person you were leasing the building from told you or didn't tell you that the electricity would be out for some time. Would you really stay in the same building? Or, would you move your company to a building where they don't turn the electricity off?

It's hard to decide who to use for hosting. But, once there, it's not very hard to decide when it's time to move.

The flood of new hosting companies is truly disturbing. Do yourself a favor and really research the facility where your sites will be housed. I recently saw a picture of the inside of a well known host and if I were there, I would be gone that day. For this reason, we no longer accept advertising from hosts on GreenguyandJim. We had a host for a while as an advertiser and the host just went away. That will never happen again.

Have a Great Day!
Greenguy and Jim
