Banners with Sound
Holy Crap, is there anything more annoying that banners with sound?

I really don't know the Einstein behind this idea but whoever it was, shame on them. Webmasters learned years ago that while their sites seemed better with a little music in the background, people would run as soon as that music turned on. When I started, I have to admit, I had background music. I soon learned that it was best to have a button that loaded with the music off and if people wanted music, they had to click the button.

But, these newest banners with sound don't give you that choice. The reason for not having sound with banners is basically the same as not having music on a website. For people working in an office environment, it could mean the end of their job. The last thing you want to do is to force this sound on people.

I always tell sponsors that come to GreenguyandJim that they may use flash banners as long as there is no sound. Normally, I would not give a rat's ass how they promote their own programs. But there is a simple fact about banners with sound...they just don't work. For the very short time we allowed sound on banners, I looked at our stats. Banners with sound were clicked on about 1/5th as many times as banners without sound.

Program owners, do yourself a favor and get rid of these banners. Webmasters using banners with sound...change them to soundless banners quickly.
