Are You Hiding Your Business?

Lately, I have seen quite a few people that don't want their friends or family to know what they do for a living.

When I first started, I felt the same way. But, I was also working as a High School Teacher at a local school not far from home. It took one email from some parent at that school to threaten to out me for me to make up my mind. I decided that this was going to be the business I was going to be involved with in the future and had to stop teaching.

Since my mother made it possible for me to teach (She had a lot of pull at the school), I then had to give her a reason as to why I was quitting. At first, I was very afraid of telling my Mother and Father for that matter about the business I had started.

But, it went easy. Once she understood how much money there was to be made, she agreed that I was making the right choice. And during the years, she was very proud that I had started a business and was giving my family a very good life. She told all her friends and I recently found out she bragged to her neighbors about my work.

If I had to hide my business from my family and the rest of the world, I would have never been able to do the job that put 3 of my Children through College. And, I would have never been able to do the job that keeps me in my home and allows me to work in my bathrobe until the middle of the morning.

So, if you are both serious about this business and hiding it from friends and family, make a choice. The lie will only last for so long and when they figure out that you are not working a normal job, they will think you are doing much worse. Our old neighbors who never saw me leave the house and yet watched a pool being built, saw a new Harley Davidson pulling in the driveway actually thought I was a drug dealer.

Make a choice...Either be in this business and be proud of it or don't be in this business at all. After coming clean with friends and family, it may seem difficult at first but after a short time, they will get used to it and you will be very happy you did it.
