Greenguy & Jim's 2005-2006 Super Bowl Contest!
Once again, we will fly the winner into Buffalo, NY for a private Super Bowl party at Greenguy's house on February 5th 2006!

The winner will receive $500 for travel expenses, a ride to & from the airport (if necessary), a bed in our spare room and we'll of course be partying all weekend

In order to determine the winner, we've decided to start a "Win & You Go On" Pool - here's how it works: ....and please, don't enter if you can't make the trip

1 - Send all picks via the board's Private Message system.
2 - Each week, you must pick one team to win their game (no spread)
3 - Once you pick a team, you can not pick them again for the rest of the season (meaning that if you pick Arizona to beat St Louis in week 1, you can never pick Arizona again)
4 - If your team wins, you go onto the next week. If your team looses, you are out of the contest. Ties count as a win.
5 - You must Private Message us your pick before Noon EST on the Saturday before the games. If we do not have your pick by Noon, you are out of the contest. If there is a Thursday or Saturday game, your pick must be in before Noon the day before the game & only if you plan on picking from those games. (Meaning that if you plan on picking the Oakland/New England game for Week 1, you must have your pick in by Noon Sept 7th. If you are not picking that game, your pick for Week 1 is due by Noon Sept 10)
6 - Last contestant remaining will win the contest.
7 - In the event there is a tie at the end of the contest (after Week 17), we will randomly draw a winner from those that are in the tie. If there is a tie before Week 17, we will extend the contest until we have one winner or until the end of the season. (meaning if in Week 15 there are 4 people left & all 4 loose, they will go again in Week 16)
8 - Only one entry per registered board member (only Jim, Greenguy & MrMaryLou are officially excluded) & you must have 400 posts before August 17th in order to enter the contest. Registration ends at Noon EDT on Sept 7 2005.

Concentrate The Power Of Incoming Links

A warning though about link text: most servers recognize these addresses as being the same, but if you look closely, you'll see the difference.

Note that the second URL uses the "www" extension while the first omits it. Servers can be configured to automatically remove the "www" when it's not there (or add it when the visitor leaves it off). Many webmasters omit it because they think it looks better.

Suppose you omit it when you offer to trade links with another site and give them the HTML code. But what happens if the webmaster adds the "www" to your code or if someone just finds your site, thinks it's cool and adds it themselves?

That means some of your inbound links would include the "www" and some wouldn't. Even though the addresses look the same to humans and servers, search engines and directories may consider them different pages. That means they'll calculate a different PR score for each address. That effectively splits your PR score. It's like making a 50% score on two tests instead of a 100% on one.
