Burning Bridges

I have said many times in the past that the only "real" thing we have going for us in this business are our names. And in this business, it is much better to have friends than to have people thing of you as less than friendly.

If you checked out the Hot Topic above entitled, "Calling all honest linklist owners, I have something special for you.", you have witnessed a classic case of "Burning Bridges", or as "Roget's New Millennium™ Thesaurus, First Edition" defines it, "eliminate possibility of return".

The topic started bad and a blind man could see, it was going to get ugly. The poster has assumed that because a Link List does not send a rejection email, they are dishonest. When the fact of the matter is, the Link List Software many link list owners use, does not include a rejection email solution.

After a few pages of posts, the person that started the thread just seemed to lose control. He virtually insulted everyone that reads and posts on Greenguy And Jim. He has now been blacklisted by most of the larger link lists and his tirade will not soon be forgotten.

So, let me ask... Wouldn't it have been better to not assume that link lists that don't send out rejection emails are dishonest? Wouldn't the topic title have served him better if the word dishonest was just left out? A title with a positive result could have been, "Calling all linklist owners that send out rejection emails, I have something special for you". And even beyond the title, a more professional attitude inside the thread would have served him much better. He would have gotten some business and he would not have "Burned so Many Bridges".
