Am I Too Green?

Ok,
I'm completely afraid to ask this question here............ but, here goes!

I've been on the net forever, and I was even on this webmaster board many, many years ago.

I ran a pay site for many years, and in 2005, I just walked away. I needed a break. I went to Hawaii, and did nothing for two years. My site has just sat there, but, I still get a bit of traffic from people looking up my name. But, it has died, of course.

I don't want to do a paysite. I'm not in LA, and don't have access to all the photographers, make up artists, models, etc. But, I do have a ton of content that I've never even released yet. I'm slowly releasing videos on some sites.

I'm able to release the photos on gallery sites (tgp's), but, many of them are turning me down for not being a 'trusted submitter'. Which, ok, I understand that. I understand the cheaters. I've dealt with them, which is one of the reasons I don't care to make content anymore. I got tired of seeing my entire site on rapidshare.

SO, my question is this, should I turn my site into a TGP? I had thought about it. I do pretty well with some of my affiliate's, and I have huge mailing lists as well as 76,000 people on myspace and growing daily. However, I feel I'm too green, and not known enough for people to even want to submit galleries to me. What would you do? (ok, be nice, constructive criticism is great and appreciated, please don't annihilate me)

Thanks,
Jax

Turning your site into a TGP would essentially be like starting over from scratch. Not an easy task these days.

My advice would be to keep your pay site going, and find someone to manage it for you using your unreleased content for updates. Joining forces with an existing affiliate program with complimentary sites would be the best solution, as they'll have an affiliate base to send traffic to your site.

Just my 2¢, for what it's worth.

A little off topic from your question, but one thing you might want to consider is building freesites to go along with your galleries (or better yet using your galleries)

Your content is nice, but I had to refuse your submission to as you submitted a gallery to my link list, and if I remember correctly to other LINK LISTS according to your recip table

Add a main page between your warning and gallery...and add at least one more gallery to the site, and I will accept you

I would keep your paysite at the root of your domain even if you leave it as a no longer updated archive and do a TGP or whatever in a subdirectory.

It sounds like you want to also use your content to build galleries and as MeatPounder mentioned also do free sites with the galleries your build for doing TGPing.

I'm way more green than you, but if I had lots of fresh exclusive content I'd make my own paysite. If you've already got the content and the paysite, I'd say: run with it.

Your TGP3 sub got through to me and it's listed.
You read the rules, didn't break any, and that's all it takes to sub galleries and free sites to a lot of places.
I'd hang on to the paysite, build some free sites and galleries to promote it, read everyone's rules before submitting, see what works for you, and take it from there.

Thank you SO much for taking the time to answer me. I don't think I really understood the difference between link lists and gallery submissions. I think I must have submitted galleries to a few link lists. I will be gone tomorrow, but, over the weekend, I will try to fix things and resubmit.

Again, I can't thank you all enough for your input.
Love,
Jackie

As mentioned above. Hold onto the site. Maybe even revamp it. It wouldnt take much to do a nice "face lift" of it. Bring it up to speed. Also as mentioned, submit galleries and also look into free sites. They arent too difficult to make some basic ones. Your MySpace fans is a kickstart to traffic should you get the paysite going once again.

I think what you need to answer is this - 'What do I want to achieve?' 'What do I want out of a website?' 'Can my unused content be enough to update a site for X many of weeks?' and go from there.

I think it would be best to set yourself down and figure out a game plan with what your goal is and start putting things into place to get yourself there.

Jackie,

Definitely keep your paysite going at the very least. Starting tgps and such from scratch these days is hard to do and make nay real money from it. It's possible but very hard. Pay sites however can be easier IF you already have good content that you only have. At some point maybe build a nice tour design and push your site more but for now yes leave the pay site.

I would also advise against running a TGP they are extremely difficult to master. If I were you I would open a blog detailing your life/history/funny stories in the biz (to make it personal and interesting) with reviews of adult sites you recommend, and of course featured links to your own paysite. With your large mailing list and myspace followers I think this would be very successful.

yup...your mailing list and myspace fans are wonderful twin assets....

anyway to be really good 'in something' needs alot of constant effort, sounds like your trying to do too much with a paysite and tgp right from the start

I think you should take all that "stuff" down.. its looks so dated
(No offense)
and you should turn your site into a tell all blog

like this
http://mandygfe.blogspot.com/

I havent updated it in 2 weeks but guys were really going nuts about it

sex stories from an ex pornstar would be very interesting
and if the stories were hot...
I bet you could build up a following

you could even take it a step further and build gallerys/little free sites.. submit them premoting your blog

Ok,
I'm digging these ideas. I like the blog idea. I really don't want to run a paysite anymore. I just don't think I have enough content for more than a year. I haven't ran my paysite in over two to three years. I feel I should leave that up to the big content providers. Now, I can get personal with a blog. That would be fun. I did try it a bit on there.

So, Tommy, you said to take all that 'stuff' down ? What stuff do you mean? Do you mean the section called 'My Stuff' ?? (And I am not offended at all!!! I have had a LONG respect for you, Tommy. I used to submit my stuff to you YEARS ago....... don't want to date myself, hehehe! ) I will definately listen to your suggestions. And, I've stepped away from the adult webmastering thing for a bit, and I don't know which direction to turn with it. ; )

Also, my other question would be................. I'm using a free host for my blog. (wordpress) And I'm not real good with scripts. My html is basic. (I'm really good at copy and paste). I own a ton of domains, so, I could point one of them at it. Would that be the best suggestion? Or should I go to the trouble of figuring out how to use wordpress on my own server?

Thanks again for your time and input.
Love,
Jax

Wordpress is probably one of the easiest scripts to install. The hard part is finding a theme you like and then modifying it to look the way you want and then deciding what features you want to add via plug-ins and doing it.

Installing the script 10minutes. Tweaking everything the way you want... a never ending process.

Depending on your host they may be able to install the WP script for you.

I think Tommy meant your page seems a bit clutters with stuff everywhere.

I was also a little surprised wordpress.com allows your adult blog, but if you want one on your own server try this How to Create an Adult Blog.

I actually bookmarked your page yesterday. I had seen your domain on my stats and wondered what it was. Thank you!! And, yes, wordpress has allowed it, but, it has been alot of emails back and forth with their support. They wanted me to keep my affiliate links to a minimum. I think when they saw that my site could be hosted by me, they just kind of let me slide.

I ment it looked old.. like it was setup in 1997

it filled with broken links and the the frames gotta go...

I have basic html skills and I installed word press in 10 mins
its very easy.. If i can do it... you can do it

the reason I said to make up stories is cause if you did a real tell all you would burn some bridges

make it like a tell all... with made up stories about your sex life

I am sure you have years of great stories .. you could use and then with some .. creative.. they could become even more interesting

and think about this
you talk about a time when you and some pornstar had sex with some guy..
loads of details and at the same time you are selling that pornstars site in the blog post

everytime you write Nikki Benz you use your affliate link
etc etc etc

your life experience is the biggest thing you have going for you right now... profit from it

I think there's some solid advice here. I like Tommy's idea of a blog but I think it should be part of your paysite though. You might consider redoing your site or partnering up with somebody.

Actually after looking at your your site, is there a members area? I don't see any links on how to join. If you have no members area, blog might be a way to go.

I just also realized that there isn't a join link.

I wish I had a fraction of the pornstar knowledge that Tommy has. I had to go to Wikipedia to read about her.

Yeah a blog does seem like a great way to go, what Tommy suggested.

A series of blogs may be worth while as well. Especially if you have very specific domains.

A blog sounds like a good idea for you. I would suggest signing up with a pay-per-minute video on demand service as a studio, add your video content and then drive traffic from your blog to a custom theater showcasing your videos. By doing this, you won't have to maintain a paysite, you won't have to add regular updates and you'll build a growing residual income stream from all the customers that you refer.

Bottom line, no matter which way you eventually decide to go, it's going to come down to learning how to generate traffic to that type of site/network. Many of the techniques are valid across most sites, but each type of site/network has it's own quirks. No matter what kind of site, it's extremely difficult to generate a large volume of traffic without additional support sites (i.e. your own network).

Your exclusive content is your best resource in that regard.

Thank you guys, so much. So, I was playing around with a site design idea, and before I go further with it, let me know what you think. Does this look updated from the 90's? Keep in mind this is just a template.

Also, I don't have a members area, I quit doing it about 3 to 4 years ago. My site is a free site, and I make most of my money off of aebn. Just exploring other options.

Here is the new template.
