FTP Question.

I've been using the included FTP in Dreamweaver.
It ain't perfect, but the pros outweigh the cons.

A while back my host disabled SFTP.
This shouldn't be a problem, but no matter what they suggest I can't connect this way anymore.
It's a waste of time to continue with this. It's not THAT important.

I've been using Filezilla for years, I really like that one.
But, as far as I can see, I can't tell Filezilla to ignore certain filetypes.

Any idea of a free FTP that can do this?

Ummm.. maybe it was the way I was taught (having to enter each file name to transfer by hand back in the old DOS days), but I have never allowed my FTP program to transfer anything but what I select. Currently, I use Core FTP and like it. It's pretty much like using File Manager, and not a huge learning curve. Pretty transparent to me. I have never used any program anywhere for FTP unattended.

If you like Filezilla, why not simply copy or move the files you want transferred into a different directory that doesn't include any files you don't want transferred? Takes just a few seconds, really. (I have only used Filezilla a few times and didn't really bond with it, sorry)

When I upload galleries, I upload folders.
Sometimes those folders contain Photoshop-files.
There is no reason to have them lying around on my server
It's probably never gonna happen that I will use up my server-space, but PSD's does add to the numbers when there are a few of them.

Dreamweaver ignores files that have nothing to do on a server (if I tell Dreamweaver to do so)

I also know how to code, that's what I've done since forever, but as a part of my education, and later jobs, I've come to know Dreamweaver very well. So I've invested in it.
And, I would love to have the FTP function still, but it seems I have to forget that

Filezilla is very good, IMO, so I'll probably stick to it.
But every second I can save is worth saving

Ah I see. That is what I am doing all wrong then. I upload files into folders, then zip the files on my hard drive and archive them. If I have to restore them, or update them (and I have done a LOT of that this last couple of months with sponsors jumping around), then everything is in one place. The free FTP things are not fancy enough to handle uploading only certain files. I did try Dreamweaver several years ago and never liked it plus it was way too expensive for me. Now it is even more out of my reach. For that kind of money each month, it should do all that stuff for you, kiss you on the forehead good night and tuck you in after walking your doggie.

I have been using FlashFXP for many, many years. It's not free, but you can use it for free for quite awhile without any feature loss. I think it costs only $29 or something like that. I haven't bothered to purchase or register my most recent copies. As you can discover on their support forum, the owner has been sent to prison for a long, long time.

Anyway, in options, you can tell it to skip certain file types.

Hehe. I am not up to date on Dreamweaver, I bought my copy years ago, I would be hopelessly outdated if I needed to do some new fancy stuff.
The subscription is not an option

Thanks! I'll look into it
