Now if your friend wants a Netflix-like user experience for watching videos, the thing to look into is adaptive bitrate streaming. Here's a link to an article with some information about that.
While it may cost more to implement, there are savings in bandwidth to offset that cost, since videos don't have to download in full. Plus the difference in the experience of watching a video, for the user, can make or break a new site.

That is a super helpful link. I think his planned experience is for the member to sign in. See whats new and then pick a movie to watch based on theme or actors. He is also working direct with studios so he'll have photo content, special give aways, (i.e. autographs, special photos, invites to events with stars in attendance...) I wish adult could do more in the way of "add-ons" for collectors or avid fans like comicon peeps.
