I do not want another day like yesterday!

I was told by the hospital to be ready for a 7am pick up as they had to take and test my blood first and the test would take a couple of hours. Pick up arrived just before 9am so that delayed things to start with. Then it took five attempts from two phlebotomists before they got any blood out of me!!!!!!!

Two hours after taking blood they told me the test had been screwed up, they had to try again. Several more attempts before they got blood, then another two hours wait.

To make matters worse, when I arrived they had to go through the list of things that could go wrong. Some were very serious and some ended in me being dead (one a particularly messy death). As the doctor put it "This is not an operation anyone would choose to have." I was only there because without it l'm told I probably wouldn't make it to April. So I spent those extra hours worrying.

Sadly things did go wrong for the person before me. Lots of panic and running around and not good stuff for the patient (never found out how serious, last I saw they were wheeling her out to the emergency room). This led to more delays, and having seen how things really can go bad, I was in a terrible state mentally.

Finally they got round to me. Hours late, and ready to run away! The operation was to be done under local anaesthetic so I would be awake. And since it was near my head (basically they put a pipe into my neck and ran it down to my heart, or somewhere, I did not ask too many questions, I was scared enough as it was), they put a sheet over my face. Under it I was seriously close to panic.

Then as the operation started I heard a second doctor giving instructions to the doctor operating. This "could go badly wrong" operation, into, or close to, my heart was being performed by a fucking student!!!!!

You have no idea the shitting terror I was in!

And the fun did not stop there. The reason for the operation was that they could not wait for a fistula to build (it takes months aparently) as the toxins had built up in my body to the point that I needed dialysis within a week. The plan was the pipe in on Tuesday, dialysis on Thursday. But after the (fortunately successful) operation the doctor looked at my toxin levels and decided that I probably could not wait until Tuesday. I needed "emergency" dialysis. So off I was wheeled to the dialysis ward.

Eventually I got home about 9:30 pm. I was in such a state, I went to bed and slept the clock round.

No, I do not want another day like yesterday.
