I think there can be advantages to both sides.

For Categorized Recips:
You can say that it gives you more targetted traffic to that specific niche, the thinking being that if the user went to that site and like that particular niche of content on the free site that it would possibly make them click on your link that is going to your categorized niche links page.

Against Categorized Recips:
The only thing I could really come up with is this might bring more traffic to the site, traffic that you might otherwise not get. Maybe the person clicked on a link that was a niche they didnt really like on accident. This might draw them to the site from a generic recip.

However I think the more places that you can get urls with keywords you are trying to target with the SE's (ie., blah.com/amateur.html or whatever) I think you would be better off with SE indexing, although I am no where near a guru , but that is just what I would assume. I would think everything helps with an SE indexes the site.
