Got a 3 star near Niles. Not too bad (I hope)

Wanted to mention we are up to most ideas on Friday, I'm not a Cubs fan, so I would have to root against them if everyone decided to go to a game, but be warned, last time I was at Wrigley it was a 14 inning 1-0 final with Pitt winning.

I am however a Big Ten man and would love to go to Northwestern and walk around looking at the campus….. ok, I’m boring as well….. Any other site see’ers? We have a Jeep Cherokee Sport that can fit 5 (6 if 2 are real small)

I'm pulling some strings and making things happen...

Like I said, this is the biggest series of the year and are the first to sell out.

If not, we might end up spending the day going to Northwestern and walk around looking at the campus.

I have faith. <crossing fingers for tickets.>

Goddam, I better make a few more sales to cover hotel costs. |jester|

I assume like most cities the airport is actually way too far for accomadations. The Omni itself is sold out. So basically anything downtown would be fine but outside of downtown would be no good?

There are a few still available with reasonable prices. If you go through Expedia, do a search for Chicago. Then where it says "Show hotels > Chicago ( and vicinity )" (above the results) choose "Loop".

We're staying at the Hotel Allegro. $178 for Friday, $199 for saturday.

Other some what reasonable rates are:
Club Quarters - $180/night

Hyatt on Printers Row
$199/night

Hilton Chicago
$199/Friday $259/Saturday

Congress Plaza Hotel
$140/night

All of those are about 10-12 minute cab ride from the Omni. (Traffic permitting.)

Anything closer to the Gold Coast (North) and the rates go up to the low $300's or higher.

If you use Expedia and look in the Loop area or even South or West of the downtown area, the rooms will be less.

We got ours for around $200/night. (Hotel Allegro - rooms still available.)

Also, it might be cheaper to stay outdie of the city and see if the hotel offers any type of shuttle service or other transportation to/from the city.

Torn Rose
2004-04-15, 07:06 PM
well, thanks to talking to Ramster (buddy fucker) I changed our hotel to the Congress Plaza Hotel at $140/night. (they still have rooms)

It's 2.3 miles from the gathering point, and if more of us stay there it will be a cheap cab ride.

So far I know We and Ramster will be there, anyone else and if so would you like to plan on doing a Breakfast on Sat or Sun?

Mr MM, in September it was about $30

Dr Bizzaro
2004-04-29, 02:13 PM
Depends on what airport you fly in to and what time of day. Midway is a shorter ride and thusly less expensive.
Traffic will play a big roll in it as well. Rush hour traffic sucks and sitting in a cab watching your money tick away really sucks.

From either Airport, you can take the "EL" (Elevated trains. Although a few go underground as well.) into the city for $1.50. From O'Hare it takes about 45 minutes. From Midway it's about 25. Just follow the "Trains to City" signs is either airport.

The "El" isn't bad. It's not like this is NewYork City. This is Chicago, baby!

Since O'Hare is the last stop on the "El", most of the people on the train will either be people who work at the airport, or people just coming from somewhere.

It looks a bit scary, but it's pretty simple when you know what color line you need to be on. Here is a Map of the whole system: http://www.chicago-l.org/maps/track/index.html#current
O'Hare is the blue line.

For more information you can visit: http://www.chicago-l.org/

Can anyone tell me if this will get me close enough? That's the old SouthShore Line that they moved from downtown to the airport. It terminates at Randolf St. Which is a pretty good hike to the Omni.

I don't know if the EL (underground in the heart of Chicago) even goes near the Omni. Dr B would probably know.

The Omni is 1.9 miles from the Randolph stop: (See Map (http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.adp?go=1&do=nw&1ex=1&un=m&2ex=1&2tabval=address&1n=COOK+COUNTY&cl=EN&ct=NA&1v=ADDRESS&1tabval=address&1y=US&1a=151+E+RANDOLPH+ST&1c=CHICAGO&1s=IL&1z=60601-6200&1ah=&2y=US&2a=1301+N+STATE+PKWY&2c=CHICAGO&2s=IL&2z=60610-2334&2ah=&idx=0&id=40917465-001e2-0402f-cdbcf366&aid=40917465-001e3-0402f-cdbcf366) )

I assume you are staying over night.
If not, make sure you know how late you can catch the train home. Getting stuck here without a reservation would not be good that weekend.

Thanks DrB and Surfn.

Thats a bit of a haul. Is it a safe walk if I do decide to hoof it from there?

Since I don't drink or party anymore I was just planing on making an appearance for a couple hours and then going home.

It looks like the last one from Randolf is at 12:45 and the one before it is at 10:00. So I should be able to catch one of those out.

If you take the Blue Line, you can get off at Division and you'd be very close. The Omni is 2 blocks Noth of Division, on State.

But Unless your coming from O'hare and getting off there, I wouldn't try to get around the city on the El if you are not good at following instructions, or are easily confused. There are 7 colored trains and if you get on the wrong one, or get on going the wrong way, it's not a fun experience.

Yeah, if you don't mine the distance, it's actually a nice walk.
If you can, just take Michigan Ave North to Delaware. (John Handcock Building)
Take a left to State. Take a right. It'll be 2 blocks Noth of Division.

Hey Dr. B you are wrong on this one;-))) Don't take the Blue Line, walk two blocks west on Randolph to State Street and take the Red Line North which is underground to Clark and Division...When you come up from underground you walk 2 blocks east and you are at Division and State...Then walk two blocks north and you are at the Omni.

It is easier that way and you don't have to go though any bad neighborhoods like if you take the Blue line and get off at Division|peace|

University of Chicago, University of Illinois, University of Michigan, University of Minnesota, Northwestern University, Purdue University and the University of Wisconsin (original seven).

Indiana University and the State University of Iowa were admitted in 1899. Ohio State joined in 1912. Chicago withdrew in 1946 and Michigan State College (now Michigan State University) was added three years later in 1949.

I'll be flying out to pick up the DrBizzaro Limo Service later today - all I have to say is it better not rain at the game tomorrow - or maybe DrB has some nice indoor box seat type tickets so we can wait out any rain delays in comfort :D

Ok, I've had a nap, here are pics.

These are from the view from our room at the Hotel Congress, the Sears Tower, and the Navy Pier and of course the Party itself.
