View Full Version : Community Project for Spare Domains

It seems like a fair amount of members have extra domains that they don't have the time to monetize. For those of you who do, would you be interested at pointing them at a no recip required hybrid link list where you control the ad spots? the link list(s) would be hosted and maintained elsewhere, so you're only overheard would be the domain. Of course, you'd also have the ability to post links to your sites in a sidebar or link area.

In this idea, and it's only at the idea stage, anyone could register as a submitter and submit their content pages without a recip; free sites, galleries, blogs, pic post pages, hubs, whatever. You wouldn't be allowed to simply post a gaping assload of FHGs though. Submitters would, however, be allowed to post free sites constructed of FHGs. Free hosted blogs, thumblogger, etc., would be accepted. This would be similar to http://www.filthyearl.com where submissions are instantly listed without review.

This would give domain owners an opportunity to build links to their own sites, the ability to monetize the domain without much effort, and a place for submitters to post links without any hassle or need for 20 more recips.

This is an idea in it's earliest stages. Please discuss, criticize, or offer advice. I'm envisioning a large network of such sites, general lists as well as niche lists.

so, the concept is, we pick a domain, link the index to your domain, then we post shit from our domain to your domain with no-recip auto approve?

so, the concept is, we pick a domain, link the index to your domain, then we post shit from our domain to your domain with no-recip auto approve?Yeah, something like that. You simply point a domain at a hosted copy of the script, and you, as the domain owner, will be solely in charge of ad placements on the template. Plus, you'd be able to add links to your other sites for SEO purposes and even to drive a little traffic to your web properties. Anyone who registers as a submitter would be allowed to post no-recip links to the site. I'm also thinking of having an integrated blog. One side of the template would be submitted links, the other side would be blog posts. Just a thought. Obviously, the script would have to be set up so that the domain owner could use upload banners as well as add/edit advertising links and text.

Slut!

I think it would be good for anyone involved, really, but especially the domain owner.

Could you make the submit page link Fonz has on http://www.teenspanker.com/cgi-bin/links/addlink.cgi?action=metaform&category= ? You just put in the URL & it drags the title & description from the meta - less work for the (prepared) submitter.

I'd want to see a bit of a mockup.

I'm not really understanding this yet - "point a domain at a hosted copy of the script, and you, as the domain owner, will be solely in charge of ad placements on the template"...

A hosted copy of the script? So if we were to link, it's to "hosted copy of the script"?

A hosted copy of the script? So if we were to link, it's to "hosted copy of the script"?It would run and appear like any other web site on the net. For example, if I was willing to host the script, which doesn't yet exist, the owner of the domain would update his/her nameservers to that of my beloved host, Colo-cation (http://www.colo-cation.com). They would tell me the domain name, I'd add it in my control panel, then upload the script to the new domain. For each domain name, I'd simply upload another copy of the script and prepare another database. Or, if others would be willing to host a few, they'd upload the script to their hosting account.

So, if the spare domain was fubar.com, you'd link to fubar.com. We could create dozens of these across multiple hosts and link them together, and work some other SEO strategies as well.

If I could afford a bunch of domain names, I'd do it myself, but I have no budget whatsoever. I'll create the script if it sounds like people are interested and have some ideas for the project.

No unused domains here. At least none that I can think of right now.

Over the last year I've let a bunch of domains go but also got a bunch of new ones that are blogs which are doing surprisingly well. Most of my new domains are .info domains that I discovered are only dirt cheap the first year and renew at full price which was a bit of a sticker shock but they are doing well so I've renewed all of them.

It's exactly the same idea what pimproll is doing with hosted tubes right now, theirs scripting and hosting but your's aff codes, in this case your links, ads, whatever. If that is the case then I like it, I'm assuming that your side of monetizing this would be 2 or 3 links placed somewhere to your sites, which is a fair deal.
Me likey :)

I have 3 .info

I really haven't thought about details like that. I'd probably want a simple footer or sidebar link to Pervespace. This thread was meant to discover if people would be interested, or if it's just another of my hair-brained ideas. I have lots of those.

Sounds like an interesting idea UW. I am however, down to only 1 domain which is occupied... ;(

I myself would like to see a "community" project with adult webmasters setting up a massive blogging network. With a handful or two of trusted adult webmasters pulling their skills and efforts into it, I could foresee a lot of adult traffic going around a network like that.

Do it all properly with webmasters creating textual links to other people's similar posts within the network.

Would be simple to setup really, just a matter of getting a group of talented webmasters to work together and pull their weight. Which could prove to be difficult. |potleaf|

Exactly. If I could create the right type of link list script, there wouldn't be much work for anyone to after that. Link lists carry very little weight, but the core concept of my idea is to create a larger net to catch whatever sea life we can, not exactly a fine tuned weapon.

yeah, well, that's one of the "test of concept" models that I was openly hinting about in that other 'new not-a-linklist' thread.

serious blog cooperation is just part of it, an experiment to see what happens, and esperiments like serious blog cooperation doesn't solve the core problems, but it does start to assemble data.

The core problems still revolve around revenue models.

I have a handful of un-developed domains and would be very interested.

Also - what about sub-domains. I've been doing real well on dome of my aaaa.aaaa.com sites.
