Hehe, I remember when Fonz told me about GG&J after I submitted my first freesite to SmilingPussy (basically he said it looked awful and I had to ask for advice, which was true so thanks Fonz :) ). The picture in my head resembled what GFY looks like, so I was genuinely surprised when I saw how nice most people on GG&J were. Then much later I ran into GFY and I realized that there actually *are* adult boards that look just like the picture I had in my head - pretty awful!

Here's a few pro's and con's:

I started a resource site at the beginning of September and began posting here (with a sig) about 10 days into the month. Despite that late start and its more restrictive sig rules, this board has generated the most visitors to date. GFY, where I have been posting since 2001, generated the fewest visitors of all the boards on which I post. However, Netpond and GFY visitors generated the most revenue. Make of those results what you will :)
I started visiting GFY out of curiousity and then noticed that I was picking up maybe twice as much info about new sites and special promotions as I received by email. That had me double-checking that my sponsors had my current email address, yes they did, so in the end I came to the conclusion that many sponsors live in a world in which existing affiliates are supposed to visit their sites for news. The situation has improved a little in the past 5 years, but however much rubbish appears on GFY, I still don't know a single source more likely to keep one reasonably up to date.
If you discount the obvious sig-whores and surfers, I would argue that GFY better represents a cross-section of the webmaster community than the boards which enforce their own standards. Certainly such enforcement makes the boards in question easier to use, but it also filters their posters, whereas on GFY you see everyone "in the raw" as it were. For better or worse, I like to see how people I may do business with behave when allowed to be themselves.


As to the XXXJay thing... I made my own observations about someone who runs both a sponsor program and a large traffic resource, apparently unconcerned that he was completely out of the loop on an issue which affected him directly (and negatively), but was nevertheless willing to take sides based solely on the personalities involved.

Unfortunately he isn't an exception and the reality of the scumware issue (and many others like it) is that they would never occur, were it not that those who decide to play dirty know that some will defend them because of who they are, while the vast majority of webmasters will stay on the sidelines. I doubt I shall ever understand why so few people in this industry are prepared to defend their business interests.

Comparing webmaster forums seems to be a lot like TV shows. For example..Studio 60 Vs CSI Miami. CSI Miami gets about 17 million viewers to Studio 60s 6.5 million viewers. The average income for those that watch CSI Miami is between 15 to 35 Thousand Dollars/Year. The average income for those that watch Studio 60 is over 75 Thousand Dollars/Year. That makes Studio 60 actually worth more to advertisers than CSI Miami. Even with almost as few as 1/3 the viewership.

Honest behavior between business partners
AdultFriendFinder admit by Legendary Lars that they shave in the open by using Zango. In other words, they admit taking money from you, the affiliate. They are backed up by spineless people, SleazyDream as an example.
If they shave in the open, what are they doing behind the doors? You can just guess! Of course they are waiting for the protests to blow over and then proceed with the thefts. Continue to publish their behavior until:
1. They pay back the money to the affiliates stolen by the use of Zango, say 4% of the payouts.
2. They pay back the money probably stolen by shaving. I'm not saying they do it, but in the light of the Zango thefts, another 10%, who knows?
3. Supply all affiliates with an excuse and instructions how to protect their domains in the future against the spy ware used.
Then we can do a new start next year using honest behavior between business partners.

I am turning down my traffic to AFF but send enough to reach the 55% payout.

Fuck ThisNow, those who know me realize that me calling Jayeff an ass, really isn't much of anything. And it's pretty obvious to me that Jayeff is an adult and a bright guy. I disagreed with him (and obviously others) about the value of GFY. I cannot think of any other industry which sells so much crap. Make your own list or go check out a decent review site and try to come up with more than 50 sites on which you might be ready to spend your own money. Okay, okay, so you are easily pleased and managed to find 100 ;) but now, since PPS is far and away the most popular payment model, delete all the revshare-only sites from that list. Even allowing for a wide variety of tastes, I can almost guarantee you will likely be left with 10-20 sites.

Now think about the thousands of sites that collectively we promote...

Of course we should be selling what customers want, but the reality is that even if common sense one day dawned on us all, we couldn't: imagine what our earnings would look like if thousands of affiliates were all trying to promote the same handful of sites.

Answer: sponsors need to wake up too and start building better sites. Yes in theory. But in the extremely unlikely event that there were a widespread desire to switch away from tactics designed for the 1990's, could it happen? Whether your tastes run to Karups PC or MET-Art, where would we find the army of above-average photographers that it would take? And if it is already amazing (it is to me anyway) that so many more-or-less good looking girls will get naked and have sex in front of a camera, imagine how many we would need if more sites actually delivered what they promise.

Online porn could improve a lot before it runs into such barriers and any improvement will help us earn more money. But I have a suspicion that even 10 years from now, the overall picture will not have changed very dramatically.

The bottom line, from the point of view of a webmaster that promotes paysites, is that you have to keep an eye on what's converting as well as what's retaining & base where you send your traffic on that.
