View Full Version : Another obscenity bust. Pics of dead people are not ok.

My local newspaper article about it.

"It is the most horrific, vile, perverted sexual conduct," Judd said. "It is as vile, as perverted, as non-normal sexual conduct, which rises to the level of obscenity, as we've ever investigated."
I would like to know what exactly it was that was found obscene since it doesn't seem they are referring to the pics of the dead.

"It's never our intent to put somebody out of business," Judd said. "All we ask is that they obey the laws of Florida. We've been investigating vice and pornography long enough to know pretty much what crosses the line. This didn't just cross the line. This left the line many miles behind."
just as a site note, I am not the Chris involved in this. The phone calls can stop. :)
Personally I think war should be shown as it is without all the gruesome aspects of it being censored. It's about killing people yet when you watch the local news I never see any dead people.
I did look at some of the dead pics. Absolutely horrific. Up until I saw them all I had for reference was what I've seen in the movies. Now I have a better understanding of what takes place in war. Much worse then anything I had imagined.
I still would like to know what was the material that was actually found obscene since it was stated that it wasn't the pics of dead people.

Life magazine changed the tide in American support of Vietnam by showing the public what was happening. There has been a ban on such things for this war so they are going to do anything they can to destroy this man.

At one point it look like it was raining people really horrifying! But later when they replayed the footage they cut it out.
Then a few weeks later I watched a documentary they still didn't show many victims jumping, but they used the live feed from the videographer who was inside the towers with the firemen and you could hear the sound of bodies splattering on the sidewalks.
Again these things never made it into the News broadcasts. I guess that kind of truth doesn't go well with people eating. It might upset their stomachs.

So there's no confusion (which it looks like there already is) - this guy lives in Polk county in Fl - the most bible thumping place you'll ever see - he was a former cop there.
The charges are all for obscenity (they include 80 porn pics and 20 videos) that the sherrif deemed obscene - based on community standards - remember this is where the couple that was broadcasting on Ifriends was also arrested a few years back for obscenity.
The sherrif seems to have a problem with the girlfriend/wives self posts - he did allow members to do self posting and has (according to the sherrif anyway) nothing to do with the soldiers trade pics.
This guy brought an awful lot of attention to himself a few weeks ago on CNN and the people of his county were not happy with the exposure.
Things to keep in mind that may have blinded his judgement - his sites are all hosted on a server in Europe - and he tried to play that card already - but the sherrif already said - sorry - he controls the content from his house - doesnt fly as an excuse.

What about sites like rotten.com or ogrish.com which also combine porn and death pictures?
These politicians are so afraid that the site of death will hurt their political careers. It's a fucking war for christ sake! These people want to kill us! The bomb our fucking subways... fly planes into our fucking buildings... and cut the heads off of our fucking citizens! I think it's great that we parade around their fucking dead, blown apart bodies! Maybe these other zealots will get the point! I really think we ought to drop the fucking atomic bomb on them and maybe they'll get the point then to go fuck with somebody else! |angry|

Yea, I just took a look at the site for a few minutes. Was thinking...ok...what's the big deal...IF this is really about the 'porn'???
Then, hit the area Linkster mentioned...I'd bet that's what they're using against him. Didn't actually look at any of the pics in that forum, but some of the thread titles are way too close to the edge in todays environment.
I tried to look at the pics but I guess you have to register and donate $10 to see the pics in that forum.

I dont know what to say but I found the section where the gross and dead people picture posts were and it didnt ask for a password... I seen a few of those kind of pics. before when searching google from being courious, IMO some people probably more than some can look at those kind of pictures and have it just pass through there mind, but to see it live is totally different IMO..
in war people on both sides get blowed apart and pictures are taken but few see them, but in this modern world with the net and tech we have. is the GOV or state GOV's surprised to find sites like that.. But for the dead people in those pictures I think it's not moral to have the way there bodies are for the whole world to see.. how would your family feel if your dead body was all blown out and put out for 1.000.000's to see...

I have been following this on the news. I haven't and won't go to the site as I don't care to see dead bodies. Cleo is right though Lakeland is the way she described it. I spend a lot of time there as I have family there. They have had lots of trouble with people in office fucking up many times.
Still I don't agree with them going after him for porn, as there was no mention of c***d porn or rape etc. I think it mostly boils down to where he lives at. I hope he makes out in alright when it goes to trail.

"Walters argued that local community standards, the guiding principle behind implementation of obscenity laws, cannot be applied to the Web, a global venue.
"Any obscenity charge against any Web-site content or Internet content is unconstitutional," said Walters, who specializes in First Amendment law. "There is no commonality based on just geography anymore. It's not the 1800s anymore, not here. But I don't know about Polk County.""
Interesting statement. I do agree with Mr. Walters. I hope the courts do too.

I'm still waiting for some smart lawyer to toss in the hard facts that +70% of hard drives have porn on them. Maybe nobody on the jury would admit it, but, what are they going to do if 9 out of 12 of them have porn on their own computers.
I think that they should show those war photos all over, so that people really understood what kind of suffering and pain war really cause to people. These days’ people think war is just like a video game with no killings, no torture, no rape and no suffering. If we should have been brought up with horrifying photos and videos from actual victims of war, on the news everyday and in school, I doubt that it would be so much war going on in this world…
Hopefully a lot of people visit this site and view those photos and then change their opinions about war.
Mist
I have to disagree with you mist. I certainly don't want them showing the pics all over. It's there for you to see if you want, and that I agree with. But I don't want to be reading CNN, walking past the tv, or getting a newspaper and see this type of stuff. And I don't want to become immune to it either.
As for the webmaster, Polk County is gonna do it's best to fry him. As a former officer there, he's got to know they would. Whether they should is a totally different story.

Sure, it’s rather disturbing and it would be very uncomfortable to see the truth in the news or the papers, for many people, but war is not comfortable.
I think it’s tragic that we first elect the people that gladly starts the war, but we refuse to the see the consequences it causes.

AMEN.. at least in Vietnam, we weren't "chicken" to show the pictures of what was happening. Remember the napalm naked little girl running across the cover of life?
the news media is so afraid to report either for being labled at "right winged" or "left winged" they forget we are "human winged".
and while i'm on my soap box..i'm so fuckign sick and tired of the "foxes" of this world justifying Abu Grave (or however the fuck it's spelled) by saying "at least we didn't cut their heads off".. WE are supposed to be BETTER than they.. WE are supposed to hold ourselves up to a higher standard then becoming the enemy we are fighting.. AND whatever happened to responsibility? The person with the least to lose (Linde England) took the fall for those who should have KNOWN what was going on. Why wasn't the head of the prison reprimanded at the very least.. She should have known what was going on inside her own prison.
I say let the world see the effects of war..maybe it will make someone somewhere think twice before rushing in to show 'Shock & Awe'...

Certain counties will have a much lower percentage of hard drive and this is one of them. In the process of selecting the jury I'm sure one side will be working to fine 12 people that don't have any and the other will do the opposite. I think the one searching for 12 that don't will have an advantage in this county.

I still remember loads of scenes from Vietnam - I think the one that stands out in my mind was the viet-cong boy officer in the street with a gun to his head as the bullet went through - it was in every newspaper back then and was just a little taste of what was really happening.
http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/content/news/special_reports/war_photos/NY2044_AP_CENTURY_COLLECTI.html
It amazes me that there are so many Americans that just want to turn away from this thinking that if they dont see the real news they dont have to deal with it personally - well - having been there and done that to coin a phrase - its about time the US people got a taste of what really happens in war and maybe they would get off their apathetic asses and do something about it - just like all the vets and students did something about it in the late 60s. Its a shame watching all these sheep that call themselves reporters glossing over the facts with their little sound bytes - we lost "insert number of US soldiers blown into pieces today" but in local news there is still some college student missing in Aruba and we have 24 hour coverage on the ground there to make sure we have up to the minute coverage of the "alleged wrongdoers" being released from their jail in Aruba again"

"You want the truth? You can't handle the truth!"
I think that pretty much sums it up. People don't want to accept what war is. It's about killing other people... plain and simple. People can candy coat it all they want, but those photos and videos are exactly what happens! We all talked about the mis"Information Minister" in Iraq who denied the fact that Iraq was being invaded, even as you could see coalition forces marching in the background. Do we really want to be like that? Just deny the truth is out there! There are soldier and civilians who give their lives every day because of a bunch of morons! |angry|

The worst part of this is that with events occuring that were way worse that My Lai (just my opinion that this was where the population of the US finally had had enough - and a few soldiers got dinged for doing exactly what the administration and the generals told them to do) the American people still have the audacity to drive around in their SUVs with little ribbon magnets saying support the war ( and confusing the hell out of supporting the troops with the war itself) when they have no idea what is really going on. As far as Im concerned every little one of them needs to be shown every video and pic out there of what happens in a real war - till they puke their guts out - or start crying like half the soldiers I knew when they just couldnt handle it anymore.

Apparently even those numbers are fudged. Seems that they rush the badly wounded soldiers out of country to hospitals in Germany or wherever, and those deaths aren't included as casulties in Iraq.

I think we NEED to know how many people died both American and Iraq, how many people have been injured and how many homes have been destroyed.
The country is pulling together to help Katrnia victims that have lost thier homes but does any here care about the Iraqi's that have lost everything becasue of this war? Do Americans even know?

I would say that a statement like that from McCain would be very uncharateristic - he is outspoken when it comes to showing the dead soldiers - he was the one that wrote to Sinclair group during the presidential elections to lambast them for not airing "Fallen" on some of their affiliates where Niteline was showing pictures of dead soldiers and reading their names. McCain also supported showing the caskets in Dover back in 2004 when it was voted on in congress http://www.camerairaq.com/2004/05/caskets_photogr.html is the only link I could find where he actually spoke about it during the congressional debate. Of course his republican congress passed the bill making it law not to show the caskets in support of the prez.
He is one of the only republicans I respect as he has always supported the soldiers and keeps challenging the way we are reporting the war dead and injured (which btw is way under-reported based on the number of purple hearts given out for non-combat injuries - tens of thousands of soldiers are sitting in Vet hospitals back here in the US and their story isnt being told)

Life magazine changed the tide in American support of Vietnam by showing the public what was happening. There has been a ban on such things for this war...
Very early on in one of our present wars (there's so many) the Pentagon issued an order which prohibited news organizations from showing the flag draped caskets of dead soldiers coming back to this country and being taken off airplanes in ceremony. These visuals apparently had a huge impact during Viet Nam.
I've never figured out if the Pentagon's order has the force of law or what or how they're able to enforce it. Never the less you've never seen a single picture like this on the evening news. All the news operations completely have caved to this and I always thought it was pretty outrageous. If any of them had a nickel's worth of spine I've thought they should have protested this by simply showing stock footage from Viet Nam to represent every dead soldier coming back to our shores. IMHO :(
Linkster
2005-10-10, 01:48 PM
DJilla - the reason this ban has the force it does is that it is on a military base - and they can prohibit anything they want on US Govt property (unfortunately)
This is something rather new - it started back in 1991 when Bush Sr got a little pissed when he was shown split screen with the caskets of the first Gulf war and one of the clips showed him laughing at something with the caskets in the other screen.
Since then they have allowed pictures when it suited them - during certain returns of soldiers after something was over. And then they put in a total ban in 2001 however someone put in a freedom of info act request and got ahold of a few hundred photos by accident - and a bunch of newspapers published them last year.
Recently in response to a lawsuit though I believe the pentagon had to agree to release the pictures - however now you just have to get some news organization that has balls to actually run them

I'm on the wagon of believing that every person in America should have photos of their dead and dead Iraqis thrust in their faces every day as they have their morning coffee. Maybe they should actually check out the ragged bloody bodies of blown up children that they dismiss as some kind of unavoidable little hassle of war. I don't understand how people can so vehemently support something, and have no clue as to what it actually means.
I've been to SE Asia, and just being around Vietnamese people is enough to show anyone what war means. It means that 30 years later, little kids are still blowing their legs off on the landmines that the US left there, and that some decent chunk of the country's population has some sort of noticeable deformity or injury, either from direct injury or chemical warfare. I once watched a man on the street who was missing everything from the waist down who had a section of car tire around his stump-torso to protect it from dragging, scooting himself along with his hands like a long-armed ape. There is a museum in Ho Chi Minh City which has some of the most horrific photos of Napalm and other chemical effects, and even bottled deformed fetuses, it's something you don't forget seeing.
Millions of people are living with the effects of Agent Orange, but the companies involved in making it are still around and profitable, and in the case of Monsanto, are coming to control the world's food supply. (The majority of what Americans eat from grocery stores are GE foods, many of which which are created and patented by the creators of Agent Orange, without being warned that no one has *any idea* what the long-term effects of screwing with the genetics of everything are. Despite the fact that every poll ever conducted indicates that most Americans are for GE food labeling, the US government knows to not screw with a big company like Monsanto by questioning the safety of the foods they create for its citizens.)
Or, a lesser-known tragedy with chemical warfare is more recent: the effects of the dust from depleted uranium ammunition from the first gulf war. Here's a page I Googled, something everyone should have to ponder as they bitch about how we need to get cheaper gas: http://www.web-light.nl/VISIE/extremedeformities.html Look at those babies, and then tell me, "Oops, shit happens, what can ya do?"
All one really has to do is look 10 years in the past, 30 years in the past, and ask, "How did it turn out last time we went to war?" But, Americans have only as much of an attention span as their TV-fried brains allow, which means that anything that hasn't happened to them personally in the last week doesn't have any bearing on anything. It's all just a movie or something.
if i'm reading this right polk just thinks fisting is obscene not porn in general right?
