View Full Version : What Form Of Payment From A Sponsor Do You Prefer ~~username~~?

I'm not going to say that I'm fighting with a couple of sponsors about this, but I'm old school & pretty much assume that when I sign up to an affiliate program, they'll pay me with a check.

I'm finding more & more that don't offer payments by check & use wires or something like ePassporte or Storm Pay or whichever the fad of the day is :)

I'm not a big fan of wires (had a big problem with one a few years ago that left a sour taste in my mouth) I don't really mind ePassporte, but nothing beats having that check come in the mail, opening the envelope & putting the info into MS Money :)

So - if you had the option on all of these (and you paid the fees, since most don't eat the transfer costs unless it's a large amount) which would you choose?

I wish all my sponsors did ePassporte.

Don't like checks in the mail at all. They get lost and if I'm out of town they just sit in the mail box. I get the same warm fuzzy feeling logging in and see deposits as I do opening letters without all the hassle of dealing with mail.

CCBill is my biggest income and they don't do ePassporte. :(
They do direct deposit I hear but I've never gone trough the trouble of setting it up and it annoys me that they want $25 bucks for each direct deposit.

I'll take a check and I sure don't want to incur a fee for being paid something owed to me. Damn that 35c charge from ccBill.

A regular old check in the mail gets me going :D

I don't really like having too much in my ePass account since it doesn't do much use there. The ePass exchange rate sucks compared to my other options, so I only keep little money in there to pay designers and stuff like that.

i like epassporte the most and direct deposit, because i am foreign it takes to long to receive the check, plus my bank takes to long to sent me the money of the check, then my bank send me huge bills for cashing the check, and then every 3 months i get an fight with my bank again because it seems some checks bounched back and with the administration of my bank i cant see which ones, my first choise is epassporte:))))

Fido
2005-04-27, 05:25 PM
In the past it took 14 days for sponsor to write out the check, another 14 days for the postal service to deliver it to me and about 2 months to cash it out.

Now (or in the near future) with EP I could instantly, when I get sign up, withdraw the money from the ATM in front of my house (everywhere on the globe).

Guess what do I prefer? :)

GreenGuy - Your sig is great!

I'm not an affilate of any programs but if I were I'd prefer the instant payout of ePassporte. -- Big Surprise!

I do have funds loaded onto my ePassporte account at least twice a month. I spend the cash faster than that though. |pimpin

I have never understood why anyone would have a problem with wires. It really does depend on the amount - hell, if you sent me a wire it'd cost you $20-25 (which you'd take out of what you're sending me) and then my bank charges me for incoming wires - I forget how much, but let's say it's $10 - so maybe $35 for the wire?

I can wait the 3 days it takes the check to get here (especially since I have a line of credit with the bank so most funds are available instantly - lol)

I would *prefer* direct deposit, so I voted for it. I take a check from every sponsor I use though, except the one which offers direct deposit.

I'm reluctant to join epassporte because I'm stubborn, but since I've been told you can go in and transfer funds direct to your bank account, I suppose I'll have to do it and do the direct depositing myself.

Btw, concerning the ePassporte Electron card, how has the success rate been?

I heard some people were having trouble using it at select locations even though they allowed VISA cards.

I prefer good old paper checks, so that's where my vote went. I have this real thing about check stubs for bookkeeping reasons, plus I much prefer having the funds in my hands even if it does take a couple of extra days to get it here. I do most of my banking via ATM anyway as I live halfway across town from my credit union, but the post office is only a few blocks from there so I can do all the check gathering and depositing in one trip once a week. However, I suppose if sponsors offered some way of printing out a "payment receipt" or check stub online, Epassporte wouldn't be bad...

I'm just not comfortable handing out my banking information to anybody who asks for it. I've recently been the victim of identity theft and I guess I'm a little paranoid now. Once per lifetime is more than enough for that BS |dizzy|

I'm with Wenchy - give me a paper trail. It makes my record keeping more simple and accurate.

I have one sponsor paying me via ePassporte, and that makes for a great "petty cash" fund for domain renewals, StatsRemote payments, Target.com (damn them! How dare they accept ePassport Visa!) etc. - almost feels like "free" money.

I would like to see a lower minimum payout from some sponsors. $50 is fine; $100 is too high. I don't promote all sponsors equally and it's not uncommon for a few weeks to go by before I hit the magic number. (In some cases, months or even years - I kid you not.) Cash that is not flowing does me little good.

Exactly.

$1000 is usually the minimum for wires.

Cost to cash a check for me: $2 = 0.2% fee
Cost for a wire for me: $35 + $12 = 4.7% fee

If you add all the small fees you pay over the year, it adds up to pretty much and I like to keep unnecessary fees to a minimum :)

That's my cue.

Well.. it really is very simple.

Get an ePassporte Personal Account - Either go to https://www.epassporte.com/ and get one, or find a sponsor that will give you one. You can get a Virtual account issued to you within minutes.

Tell your sponsors that you wish to be paid by ePassporte and give them your ePassporte account username. That is all they need. -- You can use the same ePassporte account with each sponsor you promote.

Sponsors will push payments onto your account on their usual schedule.

BUT...............

-> You get your payment instantly. No waiting for mail, no lost mail, no worry about the check clearing, no updating your address with sponsor.

-> You receive your money at no cost to you (unlike PayPal who takes a fee for receiving the money for you).

-> You can shop online and spend your money with your Virtual Visa.

-> You can add an Electron Card to your account and pull cash from ATM's or shop at your favorite stores.

-> You can send money to any other ePassporte account holder instantly, anywhere in the world, for less than the cost of a stamp. (P2P)

-> You have a documented transaction history online so that you can print out for your records.

-> You can increase your limits based on your particular needs.

-> US account holders may transfer funds to their US bank account.

-> No Internet access? No problem! You can check your balance, transfer funds, or re-load your account from your mobile phone.

Cheaper than wires, faster than checks. The Power of Visa.

How many more reasons do you really need?

When I finally broke down and went to get an ePassporte account and looked at a free one from a sponsor but I didn't like the way my account would have been so I just went to ePassporte and got an account. Simple, painless, got just the account name I wanted. It did cost a couple of dollars, can't remember exactly but it wasn't much, I got the extra card and stuff.

I got a tax question about ePassporte.
I'm a corporation so my sponsors have corporation tax ID. If a sponsor pays me by check it goes into my corporation's account and if I want to personally use that money I have to take it out as salary so I have to pay taxes on it. ePassporte I just take it out with the ATM card and it seems to me that I have unreported income since I've basically been given cash with no real records since you are not required to file anything when a business is making out checks to a corporation. Nothing really filed on me as payments and well cash is…

Not that I would ever cheat on my taxes and not report all my income or anything.

Rand

Send me a check -
I do have an ePassporte account - used once. If I need to use it again, I'll transfer the funds.
Plus I love the look on the tellers faces when there's a bunch of them. :)
(remember this is a really small town - I know everyone at the bank)

Though I agree on the 100.00 minumum being too high.
I'll try out a sponsor.. make a sale or two, but if the conversions suck, it can take a long ass time to get paid.
Fortunately, there hasn't been too many sponsors going belly up for quite awhile.

Cleo,

You might want to use the transfer to a US Bank Account rather than the ATM -- at least that way you have a paper trail.

If you take it out at the ATM, you need to save that receipt and record it in your accounting as a separate accounting entry of cash in/cash out.

I'll take checks every time. That way if there's an error I have a document in my hand and not just a string of numbers in a transaction ID. It also forces me to take notice of who pays on time and who doesn't. The fees do piss me off though.

Greenguy
2005-04-28, 06:23 PM
Yeah, but it sounds to me like you would prefer horses over cars ;)No - to me it's just another step in the process. You'll never have every sponsor paying via ePassporte, so I have to take the money from there & put it where it belongs - I'm doing that with checks anyway, so this does technically add another step. That & there are limits as far as the amounts & whatnot, which might interfere with me transferring large amounts to my regular bank account, not to mention the fees that come with the transfers on each end.

Why do I bother posting here?Sorry - I just don't remember anyone asking for info on ePassporte - let alone a book on the subject. If Storm Pay had come by & posted the same thing I'd have told them off too. We're not like very other board in the world & I like it that way.

You'll never have every sponsor paying via ePassporte...Why are you so sure about it? Maybe it will not be ePassporte, but I bet that every sponsor WILL offer some kind of instant payments based on Visa/MC cards in the near future. Simply because it costs them almost nothing and because a lot of (especially non-US) webmasters demand it.

The only thing I don't like about epassporte is the $2.00 charge most, but not all, sponsors charge. As in every industry, competition will lower prices.

Epassporte is great for some things, buying content and such...but as of yet...I don't process any affiliate payments through it...

Greenguy
2005-04-28, 11:15 PM
Why are you so sure about it? Maybe it will not be ePassporte, but I bet that every sponsor WILL offer some kind of instant payments based on Visa/MC cards in the near future. Simply because it costs them almost nothing and because a lot of (especially non-US) webmasters demand it.1st off, you're thinking that even more of these cards/services would be a good thing? How many accounts do you need? LOL Let's say CCBill released one - that's another service that would cause yet another step in the process & another fee. (and that's not even mentioning that it still takes a couple days to get money transfered from the online account to your normal bank account, if I remember correctly)

I only have PayPal because it's easier to make payments for some mainstream stuff & I only have ePassporte because some sponsors can't or won't cut US checks for one reason or another.

2nd, how many sponsors pay instantly besides Flash Cash? And, in all reality, how desperate are you for money that you need it in your account 15 minutes after the sale? The instant payment is a novelty to most people.

If ePassporte actually was what I was personally told it was going to be & be able to do 2+ years ago when it was released, that'd be a different story - it does have it's uses & I'm sure it's wonderful to most people, it's just not what I want with every sponsor because of the extra steps it forces to me do in order to keep proper records.

Fido

(and that's not even mentioning that it still takes a couple days to get money transfered from the online account to your normal bank account, if I remember correctly)Sure it will be a good thing. Contest is always good thing for a customer. There will be probably similar situation like in credit card sector. Not monopoly, but also not 50 of such a companies.
2nd, how many sponsors pay instantly besides Flash Cash? And, in all reality, how desperate are you for money that you need it in your account 15 minutes after the sale? The instant payment is a novelty to most people.Well, sorry, I did not express myself correctly enough. By instant payment I mean payments, when I will receive money within a few moments from the moment when someone would send them. Instant signup is a nice feature, but if all of sponsors would do them it will be very hard to keep overview of them.

I fully understand all of nostalgic posts in this thread. When I have received my first check (and it was from adult, because in Europe the checks are not so common like in US) it was very nice. Trust me or not, there was even my name on it :)

I also, GG, understand some of your reasons why someone would not use ePassporte. Nothing is perfect. Well, maybe some express wire transfer done straightforward to your regular bank account anywhere on the globe within one minute, with costs $0.1 per transaction? :D Lets get surprised.

If I still lived in the UK I would probably have voted for epassporte. The problem with checks as we both know is the time it takes to get them to the UK and the fees charged by the banks to process them.

Now of course the bigger problem is the horrendous exchange rate...... :(

I dont sign up or push any sponsors that dont have epassporte (Except from CCBill). As a non-us webmaster the check option costs way to much for me to be a real option. For me it costs about $ 30,- to get it into my account and that is a waste of money.

As mentioned earlier in this post I also hope that CCBill will soon offer epassporte payments cause wire/checks are outdated in my opnion cause of the high costs. Just changed my CCBill account from weekly wires to monthly wires and will probably change that also to monthly checks cause wires even cost more than checks. To bad that a company like CCBill is still not offering the solutions for the future.

Ah, I did not know that Greenguy. Thanks for updating me |thumb Yeah, I guess when the situation is like that, CCBill would probably never get into the epassporte program. Can only hope that there will be more solutions like epassporte from non-competing companies in the future.

Actually I have ment to ask the board about the fethard.biz company. Anyone had any experience with them?

Epassporte all the way for me, since checks are a hassle to get changed to cash at the bank.

Cashing check is so damn expensive here so I'll use ePassporte if can.
For bigger amounts regular cheque and wire are ok.

I dont sign up or push any sponsors that dont have epassporte (Except from CCBill). As a non-us webmaster the check option costs way to much for me to be a real option. For me it costs about $ 30,- to get it into my account and that is a waste of money.

I would mention that even a sponsor program using CCBill can still make affialte payouts via ePassporte.

There is nothing stopping a sponsor program processed by CCBill from using eP, and many of them do.

Affialte payouts are a seperate issue from who your HRIPSP is.

Rand - I think he was referring to programs that pay their affiliates via check/wire from CCBill & not just programs that process with them.

Right. But any program that does their own affilate payouts (and that would be most of them) may use ePassporte as a payment method regardless of who their processor is.

Rand - I'm signed up for 350 or so programs & about 100 are directly thru CCBill as far as link codes & payments, thus no ePassporte :(

Now, how many of the other 250 use CCBill & pay me themselves I have no idea :D

Point being that when most of us ask about payments from a CCBill account, we're talking about the programs that have CCBill handle the payments :)

Epassporte all the way :)
I won't sign up for a new sponsor if they don't have epassporte as an payout option.

cheques cost me a $10 processing fee plus currency conversion charges to deposit into my bank account so I prefer epassporte.

I wish there were multiple choices, I dont really care how it comes in, as long as I get it . Most of the payments I receive are in the form of a cheque. But I am not adverse to Paypal or Epassporte.
