Looks like MS wants to patent unique idetifier session/user IDs for targetting individuals through its browser - applied for day before yesterday
Patent (http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=/netahtml/srchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=6,632,248.WKU.&OS=PN/6,632,248&RS=PN/6,632,248)
Might have a few implications dependant on how MS might try to enforce someone else using a similar method |lightsabe
So what is the diference between this and a cookie?

If this is granted... Well let's say we are screwed.
I know what they are thinking: .NET client side doo-dads. However, this is so vague as to cover all forms of cookies, cookie redemption and ALL forms of ANY kind of program that so much as looks at a cookie.
WARNING: This is one to watch.
Thanks for the heads up Linkster!

A session identifier in asp is server based not client based so it's completely different from a cookie.
