Why I did it?
I made some nice money off tooties byots on ARS and she was always helpful with making designs for me and she is a nice person.

Is it time to rework this contest yet?

Wouldn't it be wiser to include only truly active community members? I mean, they wouldn't have to have more than 680 posts or anthing, but what about 100 or so. I assume the contest is to motivate people to come out of the woodwork and be an active member. But what is the motivation if a zero-poster like Lara can win? If the odds are the same for lurkers as active members, what's going to get them to come in and join the discussion? The no good lazy bastards.:D

I'm not gonna lie - and I think everyone knows this - the sole purpose of this contest is to bring attention to the board & get the not-so-active members in here so they can look around for an hour or 2 before we pull the name. (that's not to say that the next one won't be pulled 5 minutes after the contest has started)

I'm also pleased to say that yesterday was the "best" day we've had on this board, beating out the previous one by about 30%. It was hectic - I was moving posts & editing sigs for about the 1st 45 minutes, but I expected that. All in all, I think it went rather well :)

I'm not a big fan of letting people know in advance that there will be rewards for post totals, as this does bring out the people that post for the sake of posting & getting their sig file seen. This is why, like when we announced the Super Bowl Contest (http://www.greenguysboard.com/pools/04superbowl.html), we didn't let anyone know what the cutoff post total was & we didn't let people get more posts in order to get in the contest. I think everyone knows that we will do our best to take care of those that take care of us & I think that the Super Bowl Contest is a good example of how we do that :)

I'm not a big fan of the new newsletter contest rules, but then again, that hasn't really brought them out of the woodwork too much & I do see how the new rules are a good thing.

I'll have to agree - with all the boards in the industry, getting high post counts on all of them is impossible unless you're a postbot or full-time post whore. The important thing is that people are reading and viewing the advertisers. I personally rarely posted here (even with my other nick) but I look forward to newsletter & emails (I save them!). One of the simplest newletters/emails to read. Clean, not cluttered, to the point and most importantly informative - yes, I follow the links back here but I read and not necessarily post. The other thing I find useful is the show - I've listened to probably 20-30 adult shows - 95% were GreenGuyandJim. They don't waste my time - period! I'm sure there are others like me - not active participants but users, viewers and lurkers of the forum nonetheless :) That should be good for something, right?

I don't by any means believe that someone should have to be an extraverted post whore to win. But I do believe that being part of a community requires involvement. One should give, not just take. Contests should be a reward, not a gift. What's the point of giving money to surfers or hobby hour slip-sloppers?

I also am harshly against boards that pay per post since they are the ones that seem to motivate all of those surfers to post. I don't even like to discuss the ones that reward you for authoring the longest thread or a thread that gets the most member involvement. Those are always chock full of fat, but no meat.

This is a great board and a wonderful community. I certainly don't come here everyday in hopes of winning a contest one day.

One thing you have to say about Green Guy & Jim.. they are really "fair and Balanced" ..

and it was great fun...especially watching the board whores from other wmboards come over and try to pimp...
